6. Kobra designed by Jack Kirby Kobra is one of many Kirby characters based on a snake motif, and for my money, the best, far superior to, say, the "Human Cobra" that fought Thor, or the X-Men's "Vanisher" (why was his costume based on a snake, again?). Kirby's biggest stroke of genius on this design was to couple the standard skin-tight suit with a one-shoulder green tunic, that evoked "cult leader". The mask is a classic, with no hint of ears, which helps to suggest a snake head, appropriate scales everywhere, and a memorable cobra emblem. In fact, this may have been the last of the great chest emblems, once a standard affectation of comic book heroes and villains. As a finishing touch, Kirby gives his serpentine super-villain a two-pronged beard on his chin, evoking snake fangs. And the bands on the arms and legs suggest the circumferential stripes on a cobra's body, without going overboard with explicit stripes, which tend to look silly.

I have a suspicion that Kirby intended Vanisher to be named Sidewinder, like the later Serpent Squad guy, and Stan talked him out of it/overrode it. Just a hunch, though, with absolutely no proof to back it up.
Cei-U! I summon the snakeskin suit!

#6 Emerald Empress Silver AgeAlways loved her look back in the day (I assume the basic design was conceived by Shooter). What stands out for me is the color combo: black, white and two shades of green. In my view these colors gave her a lighter, more refreshing look for a villain--or any character really--back then. Plus the costume looks realistic and not just painted on; I like the clothing folds Swan and Klein included. And those boots!

Finally getting to participate, and doing so without looking at anyone else's list (so I'm sure I'm gonna forget some, and then slap my head and think, "HOW COULD I FORGET THAT COSTUME???"). My choice for #6 is: Artemistho she wasn't around very long - changing her name to Tigress(and the character got ret-conned into a character made super popular on the Young Justice cartoon), I absolutely adored the costume design for this character - the daughter of Tigress and Sportsmaster from Earth II she was a member of Injustice Unlimited (a villain team that went up against Infinity Inc), and although likely the main reason I was so attracted to the character was because of the color scheme (pink/white are what one of my favorite Legionnaires, Element Lad, wore).. the design elements of the costume also were a draw for me: thigh high boots "hidden" A in the bustier - including power girl type boob window A earrings cascading long, long hair (which totally would get in the way of her fighting, but so what? it looked great)

Artemis almost made my list, but I ultimately went with her teammate Hazard.

I am amazed at how many people have Galactus so "low" on their lists. Makes me excited dto see who comes out on top on their lists.. Love the idea of Galactus -- always found the costume itself a bit absurd by normal standards, and just above average by Kirby standards. You just made the naughty list for Christmas

Mangog, The Mighty Thor 154-1571) No other appearance but his /its first in the original saga in Thor 154-157 comes close to capturing the power of this creature That's probably why those issues were reprinted in the recent Thor issue of Marvel Comics Digest, Marvel's venture into the supermarket-checkout world, assisted by Archie Comics.

Shocking! Just Shocking!! Day Seven - The Shocker by Romita and Lee Just the plain utilitarian aspect of the whole outfit, quilted to absorb shock, plain yellow and brown. Just in it for the money, no horrific backstory.
