I have the collection of those How to Draw books as a single trade, as I mentioned in the other thread on this topic (I am thinking the two should be merged, but I will wait and see if they each take a life of their own). I really do feel Moore is one of the best at balancing beauty and believability in his depiction of women.

His romance stuff isn't that bad.... Don Hexk was considered to be one of the better artists at drawing women. His Romance stuff is alright. Some of his ladies just didn't give with me. Don't know why, his work just seemed off at times. |

I love the way Guy Davis draws women, he's a guy who realizes there are different body types and uses them all.
As for an artist I don't really care for? I think I'd have to go with Jim Lee as all his females seem exactly the same.

George Perez Todd McFarlane Rob Liefeld Jim Balent -M I never though George Perez was good at drawing women. The proportions were off at times. Jim Balent was a hot artist in the 90's for his rendering of women. Liefeld and Mcfarlane is a gimmee. |

The reason Perez is god at drawing women is because he realizes there is more than 1 body type a woman can have. Some are idealized forms, but they are still grounded in something resembling reality, like his Wonder Woman, but not every woman he draws has that body type and even his "heroic" idealized women show a variety in their looks, physiques, body language, etc. It's not the same sexy poses/body frame over and over with only hair color, costume and cup size differentiating one character from the other.

Kubert was a great artist, of course, but I'm not at all a fan of his females. I don't think there's much doubt that Rima would've been much better-served with Redondo covers.

That doesn't mean he's good at it. Liefeld was hot in the 90's for his super-hero art. It's still bad art. So is Balent's. -M |
