Resolution: Buy some Marvel Masterworks hardbacks covering Golden Age Cap and Torch stories. One of the shops I visit has the now older Masterworks always in stock and in mint condition. Today, it seems odd to even think of buying them, what with so much available in digital formats (and nowhere near the cost of hardbacks), but I was there to collect Marvel Masterworks (and DC Archives) from the start in the late 80s/90s, and thought that was the ultimate accessible way to collect classic issues without having to handle my original comics.
That, and I do like holding a book where comics are concerned.

I didnt do too well with the goals from last year so I am trying to make ot more simple this year.
Read: read my entire physical back log. This is not that bad. Only includes teen titans omnibus, 2 complete elf quests and about 30 issues of kitchen sink spirit issues. Only a coule will hopefully be added in the form of a couple of Marvel epics and some random stuff.
Buying: stick mostly to collected editions and not that many single issues with the exception of adding Sandman mystery theater and spirit issues if I happen to find som at descent prices.
Otherwise I am going to stick to digital for new stuff on marvel unlimited and amazon mostly. With a couple of comixology sales thrown in there too.

1. Catch up on new comics. I have a bunch of Mignolaverse stuff to read and a few other series to catch up on.
2. Read the rest of these series (unless I stop enjoying them at some point): Alias (I've read the first two TPBs) Gotham Central (I've read the first TPB collection, which collects two story arcs) Wolverine and the X-men (the one where Wolverine starts a school for mutants; I've read TPBs 1, 3, and 7 I think) Jason Aaron's Punisher MAX (I've read every TPB except the last one)
3. Reread at least two of these series in their entirety: BPRD, Hellboy, and Usagi Yojimbo

A little past the half-way point, I figured it was time to take stock. I'm on track with my buying goals, and cutting it close with my reviewing goals (but I may still get it all done), but my reading goals completely fell off a cliff this year. I've gotten very invested in reading full length novels again, and that has severely cut into my comic reading time. Hopefully, I'll be able to find time for both in the future. Buying Goals- Buy no more than 200 books this year. I made this goal last year and broke it for good reason, so it's more of a guideline. I have a little more space in my collection than I used to, but I also have 3,000 books in my collection I still haven't read, so it seems silly to buy more unless they are somehow must-haves. At this point I'm approaching 40 and wondering how many of those 3,000 unread comics I'll ever get to. I tend to read about 1,000 books a year (well, not last year...) but I want to do a lot more actual book reading this year, and even if I end up reading 500 comics, a lot of them will be re-reads of comics I've already enjoyed. If I didn't buy a single new comic book this year, it might still take me ten years to get through all the unread books in my collection at that pace. Reading GoalsFor now, everything I didn't get to in 2017: - Finish reading the 200+ 1980s-1990s Disney comics I picked up at my LCS completed 6/18/18- Finish my Avengers run (#194-300, plus annuals) - Get through more of my Savage Sword of Conan run (32 issues remaining) - Miller's Daredevil - Kirby/Lee's Fantastic Four - Byrne's Fantastic Four - Ditko's Spider-Man - Grimjack - Astro City - Dreadstar - Re-read Gaiman's Sandman from beginning to end - Get caught up with The Cerebus Reading SocietyReviewing GoalsI don't know how seriously I want to take my review threads at this point. They are A LOT of work, I've had to painstakingly restore each twice now (once due to CBR, once due to Photobucket), and I'm not sure anyone ever actually reads any review that's more than a week old, so I'm going to have to continue to ask myself if it's worth it for my enjoyment alone, even if this work ultimately falls to the dark recesses to the CCF back pages. - Finish T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents at Tower Comics. completed 7/15/18 - Finish Atari Force. 11 issues left. Might as well. - Finish volume 1 of Teen Titans from the Beginning. 17 issues remaining. - Finish restoring Superman in the Post-Crisis Era. Many of the images are still hosted at Photobucket completed 1/12/18- Restore Writer's Spotlight: Doug Moench. The images are still hosted at Photobucket - Restore Justice League in the Post-Crisis Era. The images are still hosted at Photobucket - Restore Planet of the Apes from the Beginning. The images are still hosted at Photobucket completed 1/8/18- Restore The Metamorphosis Odyssey. The images are still hosted at Photobucket. completed 5/8/18- Restore or bury Nick Fury in the Silver Age. It's always been my least favorite review thread, and I didn't do a single review for it last year. Time to sh*t or get off the pot with that one. No specific goals for The Complete Batman. The thread is restored, so I'll review if and when the mood strikes.

1. Finish my Invaders and Omega reviews. 2. Purchase 10 classic ASM issues missing from my Spider-man collection 3. Buy some Starlin stuff I don't have. Be it Warlock or Captain Marvel. 4. Spend less. I will likely buy less as I do have a baby on the way! 5. Become a comic book Dad! Well a newborn son got in the way of my goal to finish my Invaders reviews. Omega was completed though. Definitely bought some classic ASM issues this year. Including 10, 11, 17, 36, 41, 42, 43, 54, 111, 112. Plus a few more escaping my memory at the moment. Starlin stuff eluded me. I added a couple Captain Marvel issues from the Thanos run but none of the major issues. Buy less? Don't think that happened. Had a lot of luck this year finding stuff in my area. Bought a collection and am helping sell another currently which has allowed me to make a small bit of money (and also pocket some books as payment). Overall a great year for adding some new and interesting stuff to the colllection. Def a comic Dad. My son, Blake, has already destroyed his first comic (a random 90s ASM issue) and love grabbing at my comics and looking at them. He has worn several outfits Spidey related.

When I have a little more time I’ll go ahead and put pen to paper on my 2018 goals. But for now I’m thinking 2018 is going to be a resumption year for me. I want to finish reading a lot of runs that I started but stalled for various reasons over the past few years. Never made it back with definite goals for 2018, which I suppose is good, since I can't fail on them. I have some ideas for 2019 though.

Failed last year’s resolutions in an embarrassingly massive manner, so trying to be more realistic this year. Instead of multiple readings plans to get thru several of my large unread or re-read runs (Nexus, Grendel, Avengers, JLA, etc), and multiple other goals I tried, I’m going to try to just concentrate on one thing. I’ll read lots of other books hopefully, but my main resolution is to have what I’m calling “my Justice League year”. Hope to average at least one book read a day, starting with The Brave and the Bold #28. Might take me two years or more, but hope to eventually read every JL comic in release order. Failed again! Made it two weeks into my Justice League journey. Later, changed my goals to try to read 100 books a month to make progress in my decades long backlog. Did that maybe two months of the year so far. Oh well, maybe next year.
