I stopped ranting here about how strongly I believe Transformers: Titans Return was TF's best toyline ever because I'm sure I was sounding like a broken record. But then, ever since I saw the early pictures for the next TF series (Power of the Primes) I was convinced this new series would be even better. Then I found out most of the figures were repaints/retools of the Combiner War figures, and my hopes were dashed quite a bit. Then I saw what the Dinobot combiner actually looks like, and my hopes were dashed quite a bit more. Never fear, though -- I'd seen those early promotional pics of the actual PRIMES from Power of the Primes -- Hot Rod (who could "evolve" into Rodimus Prime) and Orion Pax (who could "evolve" into Optimus Prime), and they looked amazing! Plus the evolution concept seemed incredible. But now they are up for preorder with more images available, and it looks like Hasbro really cut corners on the finer points, especially with Prime's truck mode: Seriously, it seems like someone took a promising toy design and said "Hold it -- we've gotta save a few bucks. Stop where you are with it and start production." A little more tweaking and this could have been a great toy. As it is though, it looks like sh*t. Hasbro pulled the same stunt with the Titans Return Optimus Prime, but the Japanese Takara-Tomy version used a revised/tweaked mold and was gorgeous. I've given up hope for Power of the Primes wave 1, but I'll hold out hope for the Japanese versions of Optimus and Rodimus.

Love the promo pics of Hot Rod. I haven’t bought a true Transformer toy in a long time. Looks like I still won’t be.

My dear friend has two of these ... one for display and one for play with. One of his favorites and always will be!

These haven't been released yet, so you're probably thinking of the Optimus Prime from some earlier TF series. Think of each Transformers toy series as a comic book reboot: Once every year or so, they start all over from scratch and give us new (and hopefully improved) versions of old characters. Last year was Titans Return. This year will be Power of the Primes. The challenge is in making each series good enough and different enough to warrant folks buying them again. I usually don't, but Titans Return blew me away, so now I'm watching this next series carefully in case the later releases are similarly worthwhile.
