Captain Canuck, so obscure someone made, marketed and sold a Mego clone action figure of him... complete with convention variants... want some... these guys would happily sell some to you... he even has a fan club complete with badges... but he is more popular with some of the collectors I know form north fo the border than he is here in the States, and championed by some of the folks responsible for Plaid Stallions and the Mego Museum, an the Mego figures were marketed mostly to Canadian comic shops. -M

@mrp ... I'm stunned by these pictures that you posted; and he's hardly obscure afterall ... I did not know that there was a Club with its own PATCH!

He had a 4-5 issue series that ran in the mid to late 70s I believe.

This was self-published in 1976 by Wendy Snow, who at the time was best known as one of the troupe of Red Sonja cosplayers who did skits at shows with artist Frank Thorne. While she didn't become as famous as fellow Sonja trouper Wendy Pini, Snow did do more professional comics work in the 80's, and became a successful artist and children's author. A second issue was published in 1977 with a Frank Thorne cover, but I haven't come across it yet: This is a bizarre religious comic where they retell Bible stories, only in an over the top 90's comic book fashion while trying to channel the personality of the 60's Marvel Bullpen. It's even weirder than it sounds:

More about Captain Canuck. Today with the direct market he is less obscure but back in the 70's with news stand distribution his issues were hard to find in the USA. He is way more popular in Canada than in the USA. Personally I like the character. I sought out his original 14 issue run & also have his recent (2015) 11 issue series.

My error...his run did run longer than I had thought. As a Canuck, I feel kind of ashamed. Sorry eh

I have a couple of those ones on MRP's list.. one or two issues of Colonia (which I recall being pretty fun), and an issue of Grimoire and Spellbinders (both of which I vaguely recall buying new off the shelf).

I have this book. Obscure but great artwork I have the whole series and it was a critical darling in the fan press when it came out. I don't think it sold, but it got lots of glowing reviews in most of the zines I remember at the time. -M
