No, I don't have any. This is a recommendation thread!
My life story:
The bulk of my collecting happened in the 90s (including back issues, so don't worry. I'm not hooked on Liefeld). I've always been a Marvel guy and a continuity and history buff, so when they started dismantling the Marvel universe, I began drifting out. I bravely weathered the first wave of reboots, because Heroes Return was awesome, and the end of the 90s was a bit of a mini-renaissance after all the Image stuff. Anyway, slowly but surely rising prices, talking heads snoozefests and murderous writers started gnawing at my motivation, so around the time of the second wave of reboots, I took my cue and packed my bags for good. I hung around for Spider-Man, because I had a subscription and was basically too lazy to cancel it, but ended cold turkey just before One More Day (knew what was coming), and swore I'd never give money to the company again.
Since then I've kept up to date on some of the developments whenever I'm feeling masochistic. So don't worry, I already know they're worse than ever now, and am under no illusions. But surely during the last 15 years Marvel have made something that isn't a complete travesty? Stories or runs that are on par with and respectful to the classic runs from the Silver and Bronze Age? Fun stories where the characters are who they should be, where things happen but nothing is ruined. I saw a Bendis and Bagley Avengers -trade in the library, and was shocked to skim through it and find it seemed like an actual comic book. Also tried some Brubaker Cap, but couldn't get past The Winter Soldier.
Here are some major rules to guide the suggestions:
-No character-butchering, either physically or mentally.
-No to Sins Past -style Jerry Springer stuff.
-No talking head non-comics.
-Great art only! No indy-style depression or cartoon stuff.
-No alternate reality nonsense where Moose Palmer is the Spectacular Captain Spiderhulk.
If there's anything left after all these restrictions, feel free to tell me. Maybe I'll even make one of those review-threads.
