So the weirdest and scariest thing happened to me some 2-3 months ago : I went blind.
This is no hyperbole or joke, I truely and technically went blind. Just writing this spoils the happy ending, but I can tell you this was quite frightening to say the least. As I currently don't live in a fashion that allows me easy and affordable access to health care, this was even more depressing a situation. The worst irony was that I recieved a 45kg package from the US filled with comics... But that's a minor point in regards of the prospective of a long life to live without eyesight. I was seriously starting to think I would have to resort to my love of music to keep going, as this affliction appeared out of nowhere, with no clues to fortell this. To this day, the doctors I managed to consult were dumbfounded with what the cause of this might have been, as much as they are to observe it copletly gone, a suddenly as it fell upon me.
So I lived over two months in the dark, with a lot of help from many friends, taking much of their precious time to help me accomodate with this new paradigm, keeping me away from the very dark places (no pun intended) I was leaning towards.
For the past week, I've been abe o watch movies, use the computer and read books and comics. The first couple of days felt like a miracle, but were followed by excrutiating headaches (doctors and scanners couldn't find a reason for this either...). I now feel like all is back in order, but I know that this could go away again, and I guess you can imagine how scary that is. But you can't live in fear, so, I've already placed a new order of books, and am currently going to go into a binge read of Corben nuggets.

I can't imagine a physical affliction worse than blindness. My youngest son had a close call a few years ago: the retina in both eyes detached, and he lost sight in his right eye until he got emergency reattachment surgery (involving binding his eyeball with a piece of plastic. Gruesome stuff, although efficient). His mom and I were worried sick. Do the doctors have hypotheses about the cause of the problem?

Do the doctors have hypotheses about the cause of the problem? That's the biggest concern : they have plenty, but nothing that they agree on, and it's still too vague. But as I said, I can't be bothered thinking too much about it, you only got one life to live, and I better do the most of what I have left in my current more or less "100%" Glad to hear your son's condition was so decisively fixed!

Oh man, this must been nerve racking for you and all that and I'm glad that you've getting better and thanks for sharing your nightmare of nightmare concerning your vision and all that. I'm grateful for your family, friends, and doctors checking you out and I hope that the Doctors can find out the problem and cure it.
Welcome back ...

I sometimes think this would be one of my worst nightmares, not only as a comics fan but as a reader in general - apart from all the other very serious problems it would involve. GFlad to hear things have righted themselves for now and here's hoping the medical professionals can figure out what's going on ASAP.

Arthur Gordon Scratch - that is one of the most frightening things I've ever read. I cannot imagine how terrifying that must have been for you, not only with the initial shock of it happening but then the ongoing failure of the doctors to diagnose what caused it or how to fix it. As you wrote, it has a happy ending for right now, and I'll keep you in my prayers that you not only continue with your current sighted situation but that your care providers can figure out what triggered it and hopefully keep it from happening ever again. Cheers!

Wow, that is truly terrifying... blindness is pretty much the most scary thing for me to imagine, and to have it come out of nowhere.. damn. Glad you're ok!

Wow, what an incredibly terrifying experience that must have been! I'm so glad you got your sight back. You go to a doctor and assume they'll be able to figure out what's wrong with you, but quite often they have no idea. I can't wait until the 23rd century!
