1-50. Rarely has any other comic title (aside from Amazing Spider-Man) enjoyed such an exceptionally strong, long run right out of the gates. Claremont Byrne's run on XMEN maybe?

Yeah, I agree that the whole initial run encompassing the first 50 or so issues was outstanding right from the start. For me, though, the ones I remember the best, i.e., the ones that are just really imprinted in my memory, are the initial run of issues culminating in the showdown with Trigon, then the sweep of issues starting with the Doom Patrol story, through the four done-in-one stories just after it, then the Brother Blood story that led into the Starfire/Blackfire space opera, and ending with the runaways 2-parter.

Everyone pretty much agrees 1-50 are the Titans at their best. I've bought first 8 volumes that cover up to issue 50. Now my reading of Titans pretty much stopped at 50 even back in the day. The question is should I continue with TPBs after number 8?

I do not believe that was ever as consistent--and increasing its creative strengths as ASM or The New Teen Titans' first 50 issues.

The question is should I continue with TPBs after number 8? Yes, you should get volume 9. This volume will contain #1-9 from the 1984 series, so you get the rest of the Perez issues (#1-5) until he makes his brief comeback with #50 for the "Who is Wonder Girl? storyline. Also, Garcia Lopez does some great art for #'s7-11, although you would have to buy volume 10 to get his last 2 issues, which is a bummer because I feel they could have crammed them into volume 9! If they continue on with these volumes not sure if I will buy past a volume 10. I bought these 2 volumes last year before they went OOP... When I bought these I didn't know how far the new TP's would reprint so I was afraid I would miss out on the Perez issues from the second series.

Yeah, I'll go with the crowd and say the first 45. I thought the series went downhill when Jericho joined, I never liked the character.

Judas Contract is certainly at the top. I found Tara to be rather abrasive, as far from the spunky image of Kitty Pryde as you could get. I did like Jericho, his past, his powers, I thought he was a very good addition to the team.
#23-25, Annual #1 - Titans in space where we learn more of Starfire's history.
#45-47 - in the aftermath of Judas, the team strives to take down HIVE for good.
#53-55- The trial of Slade Wilson. That Wolfman followed up Judas with this extended plot, showing Gar's growing need for personal satisfaction against Slade over Tara and what actually happened in that confrontation, few writers at the time would explore the consequences of such a major arc in this way and stories like this really helped set this title (and team) apart.

Thanks for giving some info on what's in these New Teen Titans issues. I read NTT for a bit (from around #19 to around #32 or so, I think) when it was coming out, and I know that there's quite a few issues dealing with Doom Patrol characters, but I didn't know which issues were most important (and I just never got around to looking for them on the Internet). I read #13 and #14 yesterday, and I'll probably get to #15 some time today. I like this storyline a lot! The George Perez art is great! I'll probably be commenting on this storyline later on the Doom Patrol thread. One downer note - seeing Terry Long reminded me of one of the things about NTT that I just hated!

While all of the issues mentioned are undoubtedly classics, my favorite Titans run came later, during the Wolfman/Grummett "Titans Hunt" era. Not the most popular years, I know, but that was when I became a fan so I'm still sentimental.
There was some pretty bad stuff in there too, but I think the series turned around with Zero Hour and Arsenal's team. There were some entertaining stories in the last couple of years, and that lineup was great!

They tried to force the 'family' aspect of the team on people that clearly didn't fit into that sort of relationship.

I never cared for New Teen Titans post CRISIS. I tried to like it and read random issues but it just wasn't the same for me.
