So recently another poster made a comment that his sister liked an FF movie or liked a comic book, or whatever....so I commented back, saying "your sister sounds hot". Ok, so this comment warranted that I receive a WARNNG and my post removed! Ok, guess the comment was lost on the Moderator collective here as I only meant that it is hot when a female is into comic books/the hobby. Apparently my comment was misunderstood as being degrading/sexist towards women and a certain posters sister, which was never my intention. Sorry, but since women are not in the norm when it comes to comic book collecting/interest I do happen to find that hot/sexy/interesting when they are into the comic book geek realm. NO APOLOGY HERE! I mean, seriously, wouldn't you want a girl who is into comics, isn't that hot??

I'll tread lightly here .... but I've learned sex, sexy, and women as sexual creatures are a very delicate subject on this forum. I've just learned it is what it is. The only ever moderation/warning I've got on this forum was on those subjects. So I just stay away from them.

Not sure it good idea to talk about a warning? Anyway, don't know the post or who to but I assume you never met the woman, the first though to be how hot she is even as compliment, seems bit creepy. Intentional or not it is. I mean no idea if you got a female significant other in your life or daughter but if I started talking how hot i think she is, wouldn't you find that odd? Just putting thought to you. Women reading comics isn't so odd from what I seen anyway Don't think its hot, think its cool... more so if they like 2000ad

Not sure many women want being called a sexual creature a good thing. Plenty of them around too, not really a mystery gender anyway this is a pg13 comic forum, can't see the need to talk that way would come up much

I just don't think comments towards other people's family here work, as few of us know each other in any more context that a name and a picture. I can understand why someone might take offense to the comment. I can understand you meaning it as a compliment. I also think that the more mature comment given the fact we are online would have been "your sister sounds like an awesome woman!". More professional, comes across fine and zero creep factor.

I did not make a comment aimed towards someones SPECIFIC family, only towards ANY female that likes comic books...it was a compliment if anything. I don't get why ANYONE would take offense to this....but evidently the MODERATOR collective here thinks every little thing is a warning type issue.

In the moderation team's defensive I feel like they went with an err on the side of caution. Which to a degree I'm willing to go with to avoid polotized opinions from turning us down the road CBR went.

There are ways to express your appreciation of a woman who likes comics without sexualizing it. "Hey it's cool she likes comics, I wish I could find a woman who likes comics" or something along those lines gets the same point across without reducing a woman to an object/target of sexualized desire because of it, especially someone you don't know (or even as a generalization).
Female comics fans are not as rare as you think (a recent gallup poll showed almost half of new graphic novel/trade purchases are by female customers). They are rare on forums like this, however where comic fandom dwells often because of comments/attitudes like this one.

edit, I know how my wife, who is a big sci-fi/comic/genre fan and a long time tabletop gamer, reacts to comments like that and what she has had to deal with from male fans who think women are a rarity in the field and have carte blanche to comment like that, and what the mods did was a whole lot less messy than it would have been if such a comment had been directed at her.

The way you phrased it was probably the problem. I understand you meant it as a compliment, but instead of "hot" if you had said something like. "Your sister sounds really cool, wish I could date someone like that." It would have probably gone over better.

Whatever your subjective intent was, there is a history both here and even more so on other sites with female comics fans and professionals being objectivized and treated as fetish items for the mere fact that they are women. It's a major problem within the industry and in fandom. It didn't come across as a compliment.

I mean, seriously, wouldn't you want a girl who is into comics, isn't that hot?? As I explained in the PM that I sent you on March 16th, your comment "your sister sounds hot, what is her name?" was reported by a forum member who clearly felt that it crossed some kind of line. Upon looking at it, the moderating team decided to delete it because we felt that it was disrespectful, potentially combative and not a little creepy. Maybe you were trying to be funny, I really don't know, but we have very strict rules here about making disrespectful or combative comments towards other members. In addition, it's really not about 'not being able to talk about sexy women in the forum' or whatever you seem to believe is behind this, it's the fact that you made a comment blatantly objectifying a family member of one of our forum regulars. That's in bad taste and such conduct has no place here at the CCF. The poster you were replying to in no way encouraged a sexualised comment like "your sister sounds hot, what is her name?" from you. In future, please do not start threads about the disciplinary process in the Classic Comics Forum (where it is off-topic anyway) or anywhere else in the forum. Your comment clearly over-stepped the forum rules as laid out in the "Rules of the Road" sticky. If you really have a problem with the moderator's decision then feel free to take it to shaxper , the site admin. I think this thread is done.
