I can go into any board and see all the threads, but when I try to open a thread/profile/messages it gives some message about server issues.
I'm not sure why I'm even making this thread as I won't be able to see the response.

That's either a proboards issue or something occurring on your end. See if you can post at the proboards support forum, and let them know about the issue. They'll want to know specifics from you. The Proboards support forum has some really helpful/knowledgable folk: support.proboards.com/board/44/support-board

I don't know what the deal was, but I didn't realize this post had even gone through. I got that same error when I tried to submit it and it didn't even show up for me until you responded.
I thought it might be on my end, because I was seeing other people posting, but it was clearly a ProBoards generated error measage.
Everything seems fine now.

I'd feel better if I knew what caused it, though.

I modified my Safari preferences this morning and as a result I had to log in again to proboards to get access to the CCF site. No big deal, except that the server asks me to prove I'm not a robot by using a captcha... and what I have to describe is not a string of letters and numbers but a %$# publicity for ski-doos!!!
THEY'RE PUTTING PUBLICITY IN CAPTCHAS, NOW???
Anyway, I can still access the site using Chrome, but I thought that was ridiculous. (I tried using the audio version, but the voices are so heavily modulated it's impossible to be sure whether they've said b or p, m or n, j or a... )
Has the problem been reported before?

The ad based screen capture to prove you're not a bot has been a part of proboards revenue making plan for a while. It is annoying certainly, but a small price to pay for a free service essentially.

I haven't experienced that here but I have elsewhere and yeah, it is annoying.

However in this particular case, the only thing visible was an ad. There was nothing to identify, no letters, no numbers, just a publicity for snowmobiles. (Clicking on it brought me to the company's website). I tried changing the window's size, to no effect: I got a bigger window, but still no way to prove I wasn't a bot. It might be a compatibility issue with my system or browser, I don't know; but one thing's for sure: there was no getting past that identification step! (The solution came from not mistyping my password three times in a row the next time I showed up).

usually there is a question based on the content of the ad that pops up just before the ad finishes that you can only get the answer to by watching the ad. Answering the question correctly is what meets the burden of proof you are not a bot. Its annoying, you have to watch the ad and wait for the question to appear before you can enter the answer for verification, but it is what it is.

Obnoxious, but clever, and a necessary evil to keep this site free and relatively unencumbered by advertisements. Of all the free hosting sites I've ever seen, Proboards' is, by far, the most restrained with advertisements. You can tell the folks who run proboards really care about the product their offering. I respect that tremendously.

Perhaps I should have waited longer? The ad didn't seem to do anything, and I might have been a minute or so trying to figure out how to get a question to answer. I was really puzzled by what was (not) going on!
