Interesting... and here I thought that underground comix collectors only listened to Grateful Dead, Zappa, Blue Cheer and Quicksilver Messenger Service... Good Christ, no! Apart from rockabilly and surf revival, most of the stuff I listen to is from before '65 or so.

Sometimes you just need to stuff some bubblegum in your ears.

Listening to a collection of 40's Decca era Les Paul recordings, love his playing. My favorite is his version of "Blue Skies":

The soundtrack to some early evening yard work (too hot out to do it during the day):

Banana flavored bubblegum. One of my bands has covered this song for many years-- with yours truly on the lead vocals & rhythm guitar. I think I've got a live recording somewhere around here, don't know if I can find it or not.

Came across a solid contender for favorite album of the year. It's About to Get Western by Bo DePena. Great album exploring the western side of country-western...with enough honky-tonk to make it that much better. I wasn't familiar with DePena, but this, his third album, has me ready for more.

It took me far too many years to find Eddie Noack's version of "Psycho." That is some wild stuff. Particularly for 1968.

Yet another song that my band (The Exotic Ones) has covered... we used to do this as a triple medley with Porter Wagoner's "Rubber Room" and the Ramones' "Psychotherapy"... one song right into the next.
Yeah, we're pretty weird.

I was at my son's house and Psycho came on. I was like "You listen to this?" He said it was on some comp or playlist he was streaming. I was like, "Don't pay attention now, but listen to the words next time."
"Rubber Room" is great.

And that makes me think of Ray Stevens' cultish classic from 1964--- not in the style of the A-Bones, but rather the psycho-inspired tunes recently touched upon.

My introduction to this song was the Beasts of Bourbon version, which is still my favorite. And in this vein let's not forget Hasil Adkins, who took the murder ballad genre to another level by writing an absolutely gonzo tune that doesn't recount - but promises - murder. And in the weirdest way possible. Because we all know the one thing we'll regret most about being murdered is not being able to eat any more hot dogs.
