Upon listening, though, I found, as a whole, "1999" to be bit more fun to listen to. But, man! I haven't really listened to Prince since I was little, and I now really understand just how...um, sexual, his music really is/was. I do not have his current stuff, so I do not know what that is like, but the two I have? Wow. Good stuff. There's not much to his music since Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, but out in 1999/2000. His music has changed with his life since he became a Jehovah's Witness. There are a few good songs in the albums, since then, but not nearly enough, if one weren't already a career fan of his to look into. Musicology had good enough songs on it, for me, but Rave was the last good album in almost it's entirety. It's funny now, I spent all my time hiding his music in my teens from my parents for just the reasons you mentioned as a Jehovah's Witness, (though I haven't been in 15 years when I left) and now he's one and all the flair to his music is gone. He can still rock instruments but his songwriting is sadly lost to religion. Well, at least there's his old stuff, yes? We can just listen to that over and over and over and over and over and OVER.

About a decade ago, I discovered KROQ (the original) on a streaming online music service; the "station" in question played a mix of all of the songs from KROQ's annual year-end top 106.7 songs. I was later able to find a website that posted all of those lists, so I created a playlist on my mp3 player that consists of songs from those lists as well as other songs from the time period 1980-1989 from the same artists.
Just heard some Oingo Boingo ("Just Another Day"), followed by Siouxsie and the Banshees ("Cities in Dust") and now I have the dulcet tones of Morrissey fronting The Smiths on "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before".
Great way to help pass the time while reviewing multi-1,000 line spreadsheets for obscure bits of information.

And this (probably more suitable for the Eagles fans): Saw them at a small club in Phoenix, I think the Salty Dog (owned by the former keyboardist/vocalist of Human Hands, who'd led the Consumers, first punk band in Phoenix a few years earlier before they moved to California; RIP David Wiley), in '82. They were still in full aural attack mode then (can't recall exactly when their danceband iteration kicked in). I remember writing a letter to one of the punk zines I contributed to back then in which I referenced them as coming off like the band for an Auschwitz class reunion, with the vocalist sort of reminding me of famed lawyer Melvin Belli's turn as "Gorgon the Friendly Angel" as he succumbs to physical corruption in that weird 3rd-season (I think) Star Trek episode. Yes -- mandatory listening for Eagles fans &, I suppose, most of the other people listening to elevator music in this thread.

As for me -- right now New Math's "Love Under Will" is playing on my ghetto blaster.
