I always felt "Fame" to be such an oddball fit for that album. It sticks out because it is so awkward on that album. NONE of the other songs seem to even come from the same sound vein. It's just weird to me.

It's just weird to me. I haven't listened to the whole album and really only know a few more of his songs. Like T. Rex's Bang A Gong, it's the glam rock songs like those that I like to listen to. I've had a good conversation with Dan B (here I think) about glam rock. I remembering him pointing me to a movie about glam rock that had Ewan McGregor, I think, though I forget the name. I think it was suppose to be about Bowie, but he declined to be involved. I think liking Prince and early Prince & the Revolution (and to some extent with NPG) early on before listening to classic rock, got me a taste for the white man's glam rock. :-)

Mickey 3D has released a song this December (which is in itself cause for celebration), and it's so powerful I've been listening to it non-stop since yesterday. Great, great artist.
The song is about Sophie Scholl, a WWII-era German resistant who co-founded the White Rose movement. She was executed by the nazis.
She and her brave comrades will be remembered.

I like that - I'll have to check out more Mickey 3D. Have you seen the Sophie Scholl movie from a few years ago? Worth a look, if you haven't.

I'm listening to a CD of Country Joe and The Fish-Greatest Hits and came across this song from 1967 called Superbird. We had a thread about song lyrics pertaining to comic books here or back in the CBR days but I don't think this was mentioned. It really is outstanding
Superbird by Country Joe And The Fish
Look, up yonder in the sky, now, what is that I pray ?
It's a bird it's a plane, it's a man insane, it's my President LBJ
He's flying high way up in the sky just like Superman,
But I have got a little piece of kryptonite,
Yes, I'll bring him back to land.
Said come out Lyndon with your hands held high,
Drop your guns, baby, and reach for the sky.
I've got you surrounded and you ain't got a chance,
Gonna send you back to Texas, make you work on your ranch,
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah.
He can call Super Woman and his Super Dogs,
But it sure won't do him no good,
Yeah, I found out why from a Russian spy
That he ain't nothing but a comic book.
We'll pull him off the stands and clean up the land,
Yes, we'll have us a brand new day.
What is more I got the Fantastic Four
And Doctor Strange to help him on his way.
Said come out Lyndon with your hands held high,
Drop your guns, baby, and reach for the sky.
We got you surrounded and you ain't got a chance,
Gonna send you back to Texas make you work on your ranch,
Yeah yeah, oh yeah.
Yeah, gonna make him eat flowers.
Yeah, make him drop some acid ...

Ever since discovering this Laurie Anderson piece, I've been fascinated with it. I'm thinking about putting it on a 24/7 loop and seeing what it does to me psychologically. Bad idea?

A friend gifted me the complete Roxy Music catalogue for Christmas and I'm just getting around to listening. Like many Americans, my familiarity with the band extends to "Love Is The Drug" and their provocative album covers.
Wow! These guys were at least a decade ahead of their time. Their first three albums include Brian Eno providing various lush effects, but it's after Eno exits that the band really hits its stride. Stranded (1973) and Country Life (1974) are IMHO among the strongest, most original and forward-looking releases of the 70s. Bryan Ferry's composition and phrasing border on genius. You can clearly identify the influence he had on subsequent artists, Bowie in particular. Fantastic stuff!

I will have to google. I absolutely LOVE Marc Bolan, and I have for a long time. I love most of all of his stuff (if he sings it, I'm going to own it and listen to it), but I think I like more of his pre-Electric Warrior stuff better. Maybe. Though, I do have a soft spot for "Bolan's Zip-Gun". That album is fantastic, imo. But his early stuff is spot-on for me. I just love his voice. My brother refers to him as "Goat Voice", but that really means nothing to me since he claims Portishead is "Mortuary Music" and Tom Waits and David Bowie are "Angry Circus Music". He doesn't know much about music. He's good for a laugh, though!
