Just got back from FCBD at my LCS (man a lot of initials/acronyms in that statement). Picked up the following freebies...
-Metabarons (Jodo from Huamnoids)
-Barrier from Image-the new BKV/Marcos Martin project, can;t go wrong with Marcos Martin and BKV is usually a safe bet too
-Berlin by Jason Lutes from Drawn & Quarterly (I had the first trade and adored it, but lent it and never got it back, so this was my let's revisit this and finally get around to getting it back and the rest of the series reminder)
-Star Wars Adventures (for my wife)
-Avengers
-Strangers in Paradise XXV by Terry Moore (I missed the launch of the new SiP series, so this will give me a look and also remind me to get the trade when it comes out)
-Maxwell's Demons (I'm acquainted with the writer of this form our days at the former host of these boards and wanted to give it a looksee)
-Relay from Aftershock (looks like an interesting sci-fi series so will give it a looksee)
the shop was also having 25% off everything in store, so I picked up my pull box (DC Nation #0, Avengers #1, Silencer #4, Terrifics #3, Dr. Strange Damnation #4, Doctor Star #3, Xerxes #2, Rise of the Black Panther #5, Image + #9)) and a couple of trades I had been interested in...
Crossroads Blue from Image
I had seen this on Hoopla and was immediately drawn tot he premise and it was 25% off today so gave it a shot.
and...
Space Riders Vol. 1 from Blackmask...
something I have been meaning to pick up for a while and I saw while I was in line waiting to check out.
I also picked up the second half of the Kamandi Challenge in single issues (all except #8 which they were out of), I had 1-6 but missed the rest while laid up form surgery last year.
In shop, they also had a couple of creators from
Broken Icon Comics that I talked to for a bit. I ended up picking up 2 things form them to try as well...
a trade collection called The Cowboy Gauntlet-a sci-fi western with Aztec mythology mixed in...
and the first issue of another sci-fi/weird west series called The IncrediblyOdd and Eerie Tales of Two Gun Thomas Coe...
Lots of interesting reading to get through, met some cool folks and creators who love what they do, and supported my local shop.
The only disappointment was that since it is also Derby Day and Cinquo de Mayo I was expecting to see horses wearing sombreros drinking bourbon and reading comics while listening to a mariachi band when I walked in, and well, it just didn't happen...
