Anyone ever read the original comic book series before the movie came around?
Was the Men in Black comic book series actually any good or not?

I was looking for it a few months ago but didn’t end up picking it up - I did get the three comics Marvel put out to coincide with the first movie, which included a movie adaptation, a follow up to the movie and another set in the original Aircel continuity. They were all written by Lowell Cunningham, the original creator and writer.

I read it after the first mini-series came out. It wasn't bad; but, it is very different from the movie. It is more serious and darker, more violent. However, it was a pretty decent read, with artwork that was typical for Malibu and the Aircel line. Malibu never really had top artists, until the Ultraverse line, apart from some cover work and some European artists, in reprints of work from there.
It does have a sense of humor to it, but it is dark humor, far more than the slapstick or conceptual comedy of the film. Really, it was a bit more in X-Files territory, though from the other side.

Was the original Men in Black comic in black and white? Yep. Pretty much everything from Aircel/Eternity/Adventure/Malibu was black and white, until after the Image deal.

When, this book came out -- I was somewhat disappointed that this book came out in Black and White Format and like codystarbuck (in italic) -- It does have a sense of humor to it, but it is dark humor, far more than the slapstick or conceptual comedy of the film. Really, it was a bit more in X-Files territory, though from the other side. said it perfectly and that's why I have a problem when it was more in the X-Files area and once they did that -- it's threw me a curveball and didn't care for it. I've tried my best to enjoy it and seen the movie and it's kind of captured it -- but it's didn't and that's why I didn't embraced this book at all. Sorry about it ...
