Whether it be movies, comics or novels everyone loves a good sword fight. Who is your pick for favorite sword skewering, disemboweling character? The list is large, so forgive me if your fave isn't listed and go with other please. You may choose 5.
My choices 1st: Robin Hood: after seeing Errol Flynn swashbuckling away against Basil Rathbone I was hooked! Even took fencing classes in college. Play sword fights all during my teens
2nd: King Arthur: wielder of the enchanted blade Excalibur. King of the Britons!
3rd: John Carter, Warlord of Mars. The books captured my attention as a youth and his adventures upon Mars are the stuff dreams are made of!
4th: Black Knight of Marvel Comics. An enchanted cursed ebony sword which eats souls for breakfast so you are doomed to eventually confront that problem head on while struggling to use the sword in a heroic fashion basing your costume and actions upon chivalry and honor.
5th: Inigo Montoya. The famous words spoken and beloved by all: Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

I was all set to pick King Kull, my favorite sword-and-sorcery character, until I saw Inigo Montoya near the bottom of the list... and then it was no contest!
Cei-U! I summon Mandy Patinkin's finest hour!

Have to go with Zorro. I saw the Frank Langella Mark of Zorro and was waving around every stick I could find.

I would have voted for 2 others if possible, but could only vote other once. Aragorn wielder of Anduril and Thundarr the Barbarian with the Sunsword are the two not listed I would vote for.
Conan would be my #1, Kull my #2, and Aragorn, Thundarr and Vader would round out my top 5. Inigo Montoya, John Carter and Solomon Kane would have gotten votes too if I had more. Oh and John Blackstar but he's not listed either.

ooh, this is tough call.
King Arthur gets in on the basis of Malory, TH WHite, and Mary Stewart - all favourites of mine as a young reader.
I picked Kull as my representative REH character, though I like Conan, Solomon Kane, and Bran Mak Morn as well.
I love ERB's sword & planet romances but John Carter isn't my favourite character so I could use Other to pick a different ERB character, probably Tan Hadron, the protagonist of A Fighting Man of Mars, my favourite of the Barsoom books. I also liked the assassin character in The Master-mind of Mars, forget his name. Carson of Venus might qualify too, though to be honest I don't recall sword-fighting being as prominent in the Venus series as in the Mars.
The Three Musketeers had to be on my list. Maybe the best adventure series ever written, for me. The Count of Monte Cristo rivals it, but I don't think the Count used his sword-duelling skills that much in the book. If I have to choose one Musketeer it would probably be Athos, even over D'Artagnan, at least in the first book.
I chose Valkyrie as my representative superhero comics character, though I'm wondering if I should have saved that pick for something else, because I don't really think of her as a sword-fighter even though the sword is her primary weapon - perhaps because she doesn't often get to fight another swords-person in her superhero universe.
Other: if I didn't use this for ERB's Tan Hadron I would probably go with one of Roger Zelazny's Amber characters, most likely Corwin, the protagonist of the first series, though Benedict would be a worthy choice as well. Zelazny might be my favourite writer for describing fight or personal combat scenes in general, and he doesn't let you down with the sword (and other) fights in those first five Amber books.
I feel like there should be more mythological figures but many of them were known as much or even more for the spear than for the sword - Achilles and the other Achaeans from the Iliad, or Cu Chulain from Irish myth and legend, for example.
I also fell I should have found a spot for some famous Japanese samurai characters - Yojimbo, Zatoichi, Lone Wolf, Musashi, ...

and then there's Elric, whom I forgot about in my initial post, and Usagi Yojimbo...

See, there are so many. I knew I was missing some and blanked on others. Driving home it was a DOH moment. Forgot to include Thundarr, Usagi Yojimbo, Elric, Zatoichi the blind swordsman and tried to think of mythological and historical sword wielders and was just not getting them in my head. Can't list 'em all?!

Gene Kelly as D'Artagnan from the 1948 version of The Three Musketeers. A bizarrely forgotten movie, it's hugely entertaining.
