Not certain if there are any fans of Doug Moench on this board, but there's a kickstarter to get a graphic novel collection of his Aztec Ace work published:
Can't say that I recall any particular person on these boards mentioning Doug Moench, but I'm sure he's got some fans. Art by Dan Day, Michael Hernandez, Ron Harris, Thomas Yeates, and others

Aztec Ace was a tremendous series, mixing pulp adventure, science fiction and just plain weirdness. Moench was in his element and the art was spectacular.

I'm a little torn on this. I have all, or at least most, of the run. But it's painful to get into most of my old comics. And a hardcover collection would be nice.
I have backed Kickstarter's by Drew Ford before. And when the product gets done it's very nicely done. Red Range turned out great. However, Ford has a problem turning his books out in a timely fashion. I know he says that he had a bunch of money stolen from him by a foreign bank and/or printer. I know there was a Gofundme that basically rescued him. But even before that his stuff druuuuuggggg before getting done.
Which, frankly, is an issue I've found with pretty much every Kickstarter I've helped fund. Take the amount of time they say it will take from funding to delivery and at least triple it.
I may spring for it. I haven't funded a Kickstarter in quite a while. But it would be nice if his track record were better.

That was a great Eclipse series from back in the 80's.
Looking forward to getting it all collected when I finally get my collection sorted out.

When I saw this thread I was hoping they were finally going to publish the unreleased Aztec Ace miniseries by Doug Moench and Doug Heinlein, originally solicited by Eclipse in 1992.

Was the art and script actually produced on that? That's one that escaped my notice; but, Eclipse was deep in their financial whirlpool, then. Gaiman and Buckingham stopped working on material (Miracleman), due to past monies owed, while some others had turned in the work (Mike Deodato's story, for Miracleman Triumphant); but, Eclipse couldn't front the money for printing, after burning too many printers, who demanded money up front. I know Mike Grell told me that was the reason for the long delay on his James Bond mini-series, with 6 months between issues 1 and 2 and two years from the publication of the first to the third issue coming out. He said they had the whole thing in house, on time and printers wouldn't do business with them, unless they paid for printing in advance. I haven't read many interviews with Moench, so I just wondered if it had been sitting at Eclipse or they hadn't turned in all of the work because they were owed money? Drew Ford had been working with Dover, on their graphic novel reprints, before splitting away from them. Dover is a pretty decent sized publisher, though they produce mostly print-on-demand. I haven't really tracked the stuff from after he left them, since I'm not working in the book business anymore.

One of the stretch goals is a never before published 52 page Aztec Ace script by Doug Moench, included in the Kickstarter reaches $35K. Not sure if that is what exists of the script for the mini-series or something else entirely. Another stretch goal is a prose short story by Moench with spot illustrations by Tim Sale (if the campaign reaches $30K), again not sure if that might be based on the story Moench had planned for the mini or something else entirely. -M

I don't know how much work was done on the Aztec Ace miniseries. I remember at least two issues being solicited in previews. A full page ad for the first issue was published, which I assumed to be based on its cover.

Going back & forth on whether to pull the trigger on this and make a pledge (before the early bird specials expire). The series is something I've always wanted to read, but the Buscema Tarzan omnibus (which looks like it will, in fact, get released next month) is going to be my big expenditure for the year. I'm also a bit discouraged by Slam's observations.

Hi everyone! My name is Drew Ford, and I am the publisher at the IT'S ALIVE! imprint. I absolutely admit that since losing all that money, my books have been late. But, I have fought hard to get my publishing efforts back on track. In fact, I have finally been able to make a deal recently to get all my books printed and out to the backers very shortly. VOYAGE TO THE DEEP by Sam Glanzman is almost done. It's being designed, and then will go to the printers. FAMILY MAN by Jerome Charyn and Joe Staton is done and will be going to the printers shortly. Anything else after those two books are not as late, and are on track to come out soon.
I hope anyone considering backing the AZTEC ACE collection will give the book a chance. I promise, even when my books are late, they are as good as I can make them. Each one is a labor of love. Two of the collections I put together while working at Dover were nominated for Eisner Awards, and I hope we will see the same for AZTEC ACE. Also, the more support we get, the better chance we have of getting that never before seen 52 page AZTEC ACE script by Doug Moench included in the collection! This was Doug's idea, and therefore being done at his request, so I really want to make it a reality. And the other thing you should know is that if I can show Doug there is serious interest in AZTEC ACE...we might be able to talk him into doing some new issues!
Whatever you decide, thank you all for at least taking a look at the campaign page and thinking about it. And to anyone hear who has backed my projects in the past...thank you SO much for your support...and for any books that are late, I promise they are coming very soon, and will be worth the wait! Thank you!
Best,
Drew Ford Publisher IT'S ALIVE! An Imprint of IDW

There are so many of these Kickstarters and FundMes, there was one for reprinting the Silver Metal Lover graphic novel(la) Trina worked on and which I hold in high esteem, but I'm just not sure about any of them if I already have the original(s)... I did support one to collect up a bunch of Pete Ham (of Badfinger) demos being a fan of his work and was thrilled with the finished project.
I remember buying Aztec Ace and Zot for quite awhile, the seemed to have been started about the same time. Also Eclipse Monthly and DNAgents. Eclipse was looking like the number three company then for awhile!
