Frankenstein looks awesome! Definitely getting him, Green Lantern, Superman, Poison Ivy, Batgirl (something about her face seems off to me...her eyes?), Kris Munroe, and Samantha Stevens! I like how they have Kris in a denim jumper. Samantha is very pretty and the Darren cat is a nice touch!

Frankenstein, Gorn, Green Lantern, Superman, Kris Monroe, and Bewitched ... all look good. I'm going to ask my LCS if they are planning on carrying these?

Frankenstein, Gorn, Green Lantern, Superman, Kris Monroe, and Bewitched ... all look good. I'm going to ask my LCS if they are planning on carrying these? They can't. Mego is a Target exclusive for all of 2018. The only place you can get them is at Target or on Target's website. The second wave won't be available on the website until the end of September/beginning of October I believe. Some stories are putting wave 2 out early, but it was supposed to be an October release. -M

Thanks for telling me this ...

Very cool pics.! Thanks very much for the scans. I did not know Wave 2 was already out in some places. I will definitely be visiting my Target more often than usual this Fall. I suspect these toys are aimed at those older adult collectors who remember these Megos as kids. The Spock and Gorn look great! I always wanted to get Spock as a kid, but never had this - ditto for the Gorn, which is quite possibly the coolest alien in TOS. Just a minor quibble: The outfit on the forthcoming Gorn figure isn't screen accurate, especially the red arm bands. I can understand this type of thing back in the '70's (when the toy designers may not have had photos/video of the show for reference), but not in 2018. Note that the 1999 12" Playmates version of the Gorn character looked a lot more like it did on the show: www.apieceoftheaction.net/2009/05/playmates-figure-spotlight-gorn-captain.htmlAlso, I wish the super-hero figures were to scale with these other, smaller Mego figures; I'm just not interested in collecting 14" Super hero line - but I would definitely have gotten these if they had been the standard Mego size. I understand the reason(s) for this (as explained earlier in the thread), but it's still disappointing.

I understand the reason(s) for this (as explained earlier in the thread), but it's still disappointing. Licenses aren't available for super-heroes in the 8 or 12 inch scale, and Marvel license isn't available to anyone unless the price points is $80 per figure or higher, so not likely to happen any time in the near future. But then, no one was doing 8 inch scale until Mego launched it back in the 70s, so 14 inch could be the new 8 inch for super-heroes. As for the Gorn, part of what Mego is trying to do is be true to what Mego was in the 70s as well, including some of the variances in the lines. And sometimes likeness rights for actors don't come with the licenses so they can do the character but not the actors (for example, they can do Richie Cunningham but not Ron Howard). The other factor is keeping the costs down so price points can be competitive in the mass market. FTC is charging 2X what Mego does for figures in the same scale and similar quality, and if Mego is going to keep the $14.99 (now $12.99) price point for the 8 inch figures, some accommodations will have to be allowed for to keep the price point viable. -M

Thanks. All of this is completely understandable. I did get that Mego couldn't do super-heroes in the 8" scale anymore - but, again, it's too bad because I would have wanted to collect the super hero line (both Marvel & DC) in that scale. It would have been nice if they had re-released all of the figures they released years ago (Superman, Batman, Spider-man, Hulk, etc.), and also produced figures that were never made the first time around. However, it sounds like this wasn't meant to be. Re: the forthcoming 8" Mego Gorn figure, I do understand that they wanted this to look as much like the original '70's figure as possible. It doesn't look bad by any means, just different from the way it appeared in the show. In any case, I'm glad that Mego is re-releasing these figures, and that the price point is so reasonable - even by today's standards. Hopefully this line does extremely well, and they continue to produce the Mego ST figures into next year, and beyond. I'd like to see all of the figures that were made in the original line re-released, as well as never before released characters - including those figures that were made in the 200X's for the first time, i.e. Captain Pike, the Salt Vampire, etc. Currently, at my local Target the ST single-carded figures are sold out (Sulu & Chekov), which is a good sign. However, the 2-pack "Mirror Mirror" figures seem to be moving more slowly - obviously it's because they're @ a higher price. Not sure who the "audience" is for Cheers, Married with Children, and Facts of Life figures. For example, I am a big fan of the "Cheers" TV series (very iconic & funny show), but have 0 interest in any merchandise from this series or any other sitcoms - i.e., I think I can live without a "Cliff Claven" or "Norm" figure in my collection - LOL. That being said, I guess this is along the lines of the Mego figures they had in the late '70's/early '80's based on popular TV shows....I do remember some Starsky & Hutch figures at the time - which, even as a kid, I had a similar disinterest in - ha ha

And yeah, Mego did Waltons, Starsky & Hutch, CHiPs, Dukes of Hazard, Little Rascals, Wizard of Oz, etc. during the 70s as well, as well as fashion dolls in the 12 inch scale of Cher and other Hollywood stars. They even did Love Boat figures in the 3 3/4 scale. They were never just super-heroes and Trek, that's just what the fanboy boy's toy crowd remembers. target wanted lines that had nostalgic appeal for their customer base based on lines that sold well in other areas in their stores and that had enough modern appeal to appeal to new customers as well. Charmed sells well as DVDs for them, still is popular in syndication and has a reboot in the works for example. Same with Charlie's Angels. And Full House/Fuller House. Cheers is a perennial seller for them and was a cheap readily available license. Oz and Trek have wide appeal. Target wanted to appeal to a broad range of customer types, not just the classic toy collector or the geek collector. Someone who is not a toy collector might see Cliff and Norm and give them a seat at the bar in their mancave to watch football with them on a Sunday afternoon and make Cheers jokes at the games with their buddies and never even look at a Marvel or DC figure with any interest. If you are going to sell to a mass market audience, you have to look beyond the niche collector core market base (which is a point a lot of Mego and geek culture toy collectors who are posting complaints on the Mego FB pages etc. seem to miss). That geek hardcore audience is likely too small to sustain a mass market business for the long term, and catering to just that small hardcore base is a sure way to not have any growth. If you want growth, you have to target (no pun intended) a larger potential pool of customers. It's something Mego did in the 70s and it's something they are doing now. Also something to remember on these first 3 waves, Mego is turning around 60 figures in a very small window to complete the Target deal on Target's terms. Target wanted them sooner than Mego was looking at for a release date, so they had to fall back on some of the molds and sculpts they had available from Paul Clarke (a.k.a. Dr. Mego) who was the driving force behind the EMCEE lines (Trek, Universal Monsters & others) and the initial Mattel lines in the Mego style (Ghostbusters & DC) before FTC got the licenses. The Gorn figure uses a lot of the sculpts and toolings form the EMCEE Gorn figure released through Diamond several years back, with some modifications. There was neither time, nor opportunity to do all new sculpts and toolings for every figure. -M
