Herb Trimpe (1939-2015) was a Marvel mainstay artist, working on titles like The Incredible Hulk in the 1970s and G.I.Joe in the 1980s. But in the late 70s, he was also commissioned by Proctor and Gamble to help them spice up their advertisements for Crest Toothpaste that would appear on Saturday morning television amidst all the cartoons. So Trimpe designed some rock-men monsters, the Cavity Creeps, who attacked the walled city of Toothopolis and contended with its defenders, the Crest Team. The narrator was Jackson Beck (1912-2004), who had a long history in superhero voice acting going back to his narration for Superman cartoons in 1941: 37 years later... voice unchanged! He must not smoke. He narrated G.I. Joe cartoons throughout the 1980s as well. Anybody remember these commercials?

Yeah I remember those. I had no idea Trimpe was involved in them. I do know one thing, whoever did the voice direction was no Andrea Romano (Batman TAS, etc...)
Several comic people moonlighted in advertising and animation, or moved on to animation for better pay and benefits. Mike Sekowsky was working for Hanna-Barbera and Kirby worked both there and for Ruby-Spears. Of course, Toth worked at H-B for years, while Doug Wildey worked there and for DePatie-Freleng. Marty Pasko wrote scripts for several places and Paul Dini wrote, some, for Filmation, before working at WB (including one story for the Shazam animated series, on the Kid Power Hour). Will Meugnot (of DNAgents fame) regularly worked in animation. Cary Bates and Marv Wolfman were scripting for animation and live action, in the 8s and beyond. Jose Luis Garcia Lopez provided character designs for the Legendary Super Powers version of the Super-Friends, where they revamped the body designs. Of course, he created the style guides used for DC licensing.
