That has been a 30 year trend for most retail rents. The 90s was the big Ground Zero, as that is what drove a lot of mom and pops out of business, before online alternatives to selling. It's just continued on, as they can't compete with online sellers, or chains, due to overhead. The time I went there , I passed a few floors where they had sweat shops. My local, in Springfield, IL, back in the turn of the Millennium, had two questionable locations. One was a tiny building, about a block from a seedy motel (though also a couple of blocks from a Catholic grade school) and he got robbed, once. There was a pawn shop next door, though with the bars on the comic shop window, it was hard to tell which was which. he then moved to a new location, a mile or two away, but still in a marginal neighborhood. He was still paranoid about someone breaking in through the window that he put up steel slats, which made it look like a pawn shop, again. In Forsyth, IL, just a little north of Decatur, there is a place called The Old Book Barn. It opened up about the time I was graduating from high school, in 1984. It used to be an old auction barn, before the present owners bought it. At first, it was heavily Harlequin romance novels, stacks of old National Geographics, then a smattering of old hardcover books and sparse displays of paperback genre titles. My dad and I went to check it out, being big book lovers. He found 2 or 3 Ernie Gann novels (wrote several aviation-based adventures) and a couple of medieval romances, while the only thing I found that interested me was a copy of The Dreaming City, the Lancer Books edited version of the first Elric story, from Michael Moorcock (hard name to live up to ). They grew though, and created themed rooms around genres and it was a great place to find collectible paperbacks and series. They had comics, but always in pretty bad condition. In later years, I took Barb there and they were also selling antiques and jewelry pieces, which interested Barb far more than old books.

Haven't had a chance to watch it all the way through yet, but this doc about Wendy & Richard Pini (and Elfquest) is getting a lot of positive responses including from the Pinis social media accounts. I liked the bit I've watched so far, but likley won't have time to watch the rest until next week.

After reading through the Marvel/Epic version, I now have The Complete Elfquest 1&2 on the way from Amazon. The book reminded me of why I fell in love with The Dark Crystal as a kid, it's just perfect

I will see your six word balloons and raise you three. And those are far from the only reasons that this is a perfectly horrible cover. And people say Sekowsky wasn't any good at putting lots of characters onto one cover. That's Rich Buckler with an homage to Dick Dillin.

What was even worse, the story of Zatanna joining the JLA revolved around her needing to be rescued, as usual. It was made even worse by taking away her main appeal: sexy costume. Sure, they gave her a boob-window; but, I'm a leg-man, myself. The later costume was a marked improvement, for superhero work, though a bit over-designed.

Granted, balancing a top hat whilst fighting Kanjar Ro-level galactic conquerors might be a tall order, but c'mon, a quick "Tah, t'nod llaf" would have served the purpose. Maybe DC thought Black Canary provided enough leg art for one super-group. I do think the powers-that-were just kept inducting anybody with a pulse as a "ratings-booster." Metamorpho had the right idea way back in the mid-60s, following the Groucho Marx rule about joining clubs.

Metamorpho had the right idea way back in the mid-60s, following the Groucho Marx rule about joining clubs. Which they did invoke, with Black Lightning, though you can make whatever political points out of that you wish. Green Arrow is written like an idiot, because his basic pitch to the team included "...and Black!" The story is better than those panels suggest; but, Conway is rather ham-fisted with it and the ideas he presents, which is par for the course, in my reaction to a lot of his work. I mostly liked his JLA, but he got over-bearing, quite often.

codystarbuck... Never, never could understand how in any of these team/group comics, any internecine conflict didn't just go up to 11, it always had to start at 11. Well, I actually do understand, because it's easier to write it that way. And subtle, comics ain't. Oh, and good for Black Lightning. I'd forgotten that.

During the Jim Shooter run for the Avengers, he has them disagreeing but it didn’t start at 11. Captain America began to build a resentment for Iron Man that paid off maybe 6 months later.
