It depends. If you're on cross-examination then, yes, I endorse this advice. If you're on direct examination then probably not...though again, maybe, if you're a hostile witness. But, overall, he is correct.

I don't know, but I always thought that this fellow made a lot of sense : I 100% endorse this. People used to look at me funny because I would tell my kids "The police are not your friends. You can't trust them." And I would say that even though, at the time, I was good friends with a couple of cops and we would hang out maybe once a month or so making beer. The police are trained to make you admit stuff you didn't do. And a lot of them are simply looking for someone to pin the case on. I've literally had at least one cop on the stand answer that he wasn't interested in pursuing other leads he was interested in proving my client did what he thought the client did. So no, never talk to the police.

Not to derail this conversation, but why do so many mainstream comics today look like TV?

I think I know what you mean. I can’t quite articulate it. What are you thinking, MDG?

I think I know what you mean. I can’t quite articulate it. What are you thinking, MDG ? Pictures of people talking.
I mean, a lot of, for example, ECs or L&R are pictures of people talking, but it's interesting. There's what they're saying + what they're thinking or reactions. This sequence is about Peter learning a lesson, but we barely see his face.

Because the EC artists actually knew how to draw? That kid is supposed to be Peter Parker? His expression is two pen scratches and a blot. Compared to this, Coletta is Alex Toth. Or, wait, did you mean extreme close-ups?

Not to derail this conversation, but why do so many mainstream comics today look like TV? Too many of their influences involve a screen?

Or, wait, did you mean extreme close-ups?It doesn't have to be close-ups, it just has to be interesting and tell the story. In the second panel here, the focus is on Peter's watch, not on either of the people. And the two panels of the people are very static. Here's an extreme example: it's 7 panels of essentially dialog, but there's a lot more going on in terms of emotion and characterization... Here's Toth with a page of people talking--a lot:
But it's interesting to look at and tells a story beyond the dialog.

I agree with MDG 100%. As I work my way through Lee/Ditko Spidey, I see so many dynamic panels that almost jump off the page. They need to be exciting.

That's what I thought you meant, MDG. Plus the coloring is drab.

Not to derail this conversation, but why do so many mainstream comics today look like TV? Simple... the artist looked at "Wally Wood's 22 panels that always work", and picked that one panel (you know, the boring one) where the camera is fixed level at mid distance and stuck with it. Actually, none of Wally's panels are a boring as the example above. But seriously, it's because so many comics are written using the (incorrect) lessons they learned from Brian Michael Bendis... lots of talking is somehow entertaining.
