I thought this was really good. Definitely the most graphic Justice League film released. I was surprised with how far they went with some of the carnage done by Doomsday. The action was really good, especially when the Justice League gets involved.
Lois and Clark's relationship is a big part of this film, and I felt like it was handled fairly well. There were one or two times where you felt a cliche moment was coming, and the storytellers didn't follow the paint by numbers route as a cheap way to try and manufacture drama. I really appreciated that.
The animation was dope. I like the character designs that have basically been the bread and butter of this new era of DC for the last few years.
All in all this was a good one. Can't wait for Reign of the Supermen which will follow.

The Death of Superman has been done on film three times in the last decade or so; this, the animated Superman: Doomsday, and Batman v Superman.

Supes has, what, eighty years worth of stories to his name? And they keep returning to this overrated cash grab? And on top of that, they stick the character in that atrocious New 52 costume?
Yeah, no thanks, DC. Adapt a good storyline like "Panic in the Sky!" and put Superman in the trunks, then we'll talk.

I have mixed feelings about it and after awhile -- I just wished that they stopped making them and do something more original and something more creative.
I just feel that way and I just want the original Superman with trunks and all because that Superman is the TRUE SUPERMAN that I loved and respect for.

Even telling the same story over again, in a better way, is probably going to do better than some of the other animated Superman films that have had stories that people aren't familiar with. .

I for one do not feel that the Death & Life of Superman comics are at all overrated. Yes, it was produced as an obvious "cash grab" in the '90's to get more people to buy the Superman comics, but at the same time I felt the storyline was interesting, well-written, and had great characterization.
The initial fight between Doomsday & Superman was action packed, poignant, and compelling. For the first time in the comics (at least the first time I remember), the Superman character had the crap beat out of him and - for all practical purposes - died, thereby giving his life to save innocents. Granted, he didn't really "die" but he almost did, and the subsequent storyline - with the "Rise" of the different "Supermen" was also interesting.
I've been waiting for a decent adaptation of this storyline for years. It was re-adpated in the TV series Smallville (not that great), the 2007 animated film (terrible), and Batman vs. Superman - a film I truly & unequivocally hated.
So, I've always wanted to see a strict adaptation, which faithfully chronicles the storyline from the comics re: Doomsday fighting various other super-heroes (before battling Superman), the months after Superman's "death" with the rise of the other "Supermen", i.e. Superboy, Steel, the robotic Superman, etc.
So, I look forward to seeing this cartoon at some point soon - hopefully it will be faithful to the source material. We'll see.

It improves on the source material in some ways. Doomsday doesn't trash a load of D-listers like Blue Beetle and Booster Gold before the main event, he takes out Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, the Flash, Batman et al.

Just saw the new animated Death of Superman film on Blu-ray. This....was....incredible. Not only was this THE best adaptation of the original "Death of Superman" comic, but it was also one of the best DC animated films I've seen. Very gory & bloody, without being gratuitous. The theme of self-sacrifice for the good of the many was very pronounced in this film, as it was in the original comic.
As was said, in some ways this film actually improved on the original source material; the other DC characters that Doomsday fought & defeated were A-list DC superheroes (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Batman, etc.) prior to finally battling Superman - instead of more obscure characters like Blue Beetle, Booster Gold, etc. - like in the comic. The storyline leading up to the battle was interesting as well, re: Clark telling Lois his secret identity right before having to leave to fight Doomsday, the astronauts in space, etc.
The battle between Superman & Doomsday was epic, vicious, and pulse pounding. Very intense, with windows/glass shattering, a lot of buildings being damaged, etc. Very well-done here.
I haven't read the comic in a while, but I don't remember Lex Luthor getting involved with the Doomsday battle at all, as he did in this film. However, it worked well here - i.e., the only reason he wanted to get involved was so he could take the credit for defeating Doomsday, not Superman. And, after Superman "died" he acted like he had a large part in the battle, when in point of fact Superman actually had to save him. What a scum-bag, i.e. using the death of Superman as an excuse to make himself the "hero".
The film clocked at roughly 1 hour, 20 minutes - and, didn't feel at all rushed. Before I saw this I felt it would have to be at least two hours to do the story justice, but actually the battle itself (leading up to Superman's "death") was only about 4 issues IIRC, so almost 1 1/2 hours seems about right.
I only have one extremely minor complaint: I would have preferred if the DC superhero uniforms had been the '90's versions, to be more in line with the original comic. However, this is a minor nitpick & didn't affect my enjoyment of the film at all.
Really looking forward to the forthcoming Reign of the Superman next year. I do hope it's at least 3 hours, since that storyline was a lot more involved & intricate than the Doomsday battle. It also took place over many months, instead of just within the space of a day (or less). In any case, it definitely needs to be longer than 1 1/2 hours.

It's not going to be 3 hours. It's be the same 80 minute-ish runtime all these movies are.
