I've posted this thread both on CBR and Classic Comics Forum. I’m part of a team working on an independent comic book series project, we hope to launch early in 2019. Our main promotional campaign will be centered around conventions but we don’t want to spend our efforts on the ones dedicated to pop culture, we want to concentrate on those devoted to comic books, which we know will tend to be smaller and grassroots. Where can I find a comprehensive list or database that will allow me to identify such conventions and therefore plan an effective campaign? All help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Luis Reina

I don't know of any list that is focused on comic-focused events especially, but over at Previews World they have a pretty comprehensive calendar of comic cons being held across the country. You'd have to weed through that list on your own though.
Off the top of my head, in my general area I know of three cons that might fit your criteria. Baltimore Comic Con and Heroes Con in North Carolina are both events that are focused on comic books and creators. Small Press Expo is held in Bethesda MD, and it has a focus on independent comics, so that might be right up your alley.

The difficult part is knowing which are pop culture centric and which are really devoted to comic books.

Generally speaking, the smaller the show, the greater the emphasis on comic books. Having seen a few smaller comic shows grow big over the years, they each did it by embracing more of a pop culture identity. So I would stick with the Holiday Inns and Knights of Columbus halls if you're looking to avoid pop culture. Set up will be cheaper too.
