The Legion of Super Heroes had an astonishingly large roster of heroes, but Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen kept them manageable through a monitor board which assigned a symbol to each hero. These were drawn from their costume insignia, the effect of their powers, or sometimes their name, rendered in Interlac. How many of these Legionnaire symbols can you identify?

There's a few I don't know, especially Cube Boy? or is that Block guy that looked a bit like The Thing maybe? No idea who is represented by the tooth, unless Matter-Eater Lad?. Also some I thought must be one person until I saw one further down even more fitting to them.

Also some I thought must be one person until I saw one further down even more fitting to them. That would be Cavity Kid! He induces decay. Nah, you were right. It's Matter-Eater Lad. The trickiest ones are Cosmic Boy (the concentric circles) as opposed to Magnetic Lad (the magnet), and Dawnstar and Sun Boy (his eight pointed star has an inscribed circle, while hers does not). Blok (looks like The Thing, but more of a gentle giant like Peter Rasputin) is the cube, while Stone Boy is the rock.

If I did the SPOILER thing wrong, somebody please fix it. Thanks. So here it is off the top of my head, no Google, no checking the comics. I'm guessing the Substitute Legionnaires are included. I hope I'm right or there's gonna be a few very wrong guesses here. {Spoiler: Click to show} ROW 1
Blok
Bouncing Boy
Brainac 5
Chameleon Boy
Chemical King
Chlorophyll Kid
Color Kid
Colossal Boy
ROW 2
? I should know this one, I think. Something with a Comet comes to mind, but probably way off base.
Cosmic Boy
Dawnstar
Double-Header
Duo Damsel
Dream Girl
Element Lad
Ferro Lad
ROW 3
Fire Lad
Infectious Lass
Invisible Kid
Karate Kid
?
Light Lass
Lightning Lad
Magnetic Kid
ROW 4
Senator Matter-Eater Lad
?
Night Girl
Princess Projectra
Polar Boy
Porcupine Kid
?
Saturn Girl
ROW 5
Sensor Girl
Shadow Lass
Shrinking Violet
Star Boy
?
Sun Boy
Supergirl
Tyroc
ROW 6
Timber Wolf
Ultra Boy

The fact that it's alphabetical helped. I couldn't remember at first which one was Sensor Girl and which was Shadow Lass. There's a few that I know I'll kick myself for missing.

The ones I didn't know were after I stopped reading, regularly.

Once I realized (pretty quickly) that it was alphabetical and included the subs, I was surprised how many I knew.

Nice find, rberman. For those who may be interested, here's a link to more about the chart, which evidently was created or at least put together some years ago on another board by a poster named Nightcrawler, plus some info about Levitz and Giffen's monitor board www.legionworld.net/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=2792&Number=54444Re Ferro Lad's "Fe", is there anyone among us LSH (and Metal Men!) readers who didn't ace tests on periodic table abbreviations and/or symbols ? The Dream Girl thought bubble symbol brings to mind when Ayla's powers were first changed from discharging lightning to being able to make things/people super-light (in Adv. #317). She sported this symbol, below, for a few issues, but it was shortly changed to a feather.*** *** It's a cloud, but apparently it confused readers (Adv. 329 lettercol), so her power symbol was changed to a feather.

Too bad they kept Cosmic Boy's name even though his power has nothing to do with the Cosmos! He could have been Magna-Boy or something.

I went thru all of these symbols and I have been reading DC Archives featuring the Legion and I got about 3/10 symbols correct so far and it's not an easy thing to do.

The half dozen or so I missed the first time I could smoke out figuring they were in alphabetic order like MDG said.
Some of them were characters in the LSH title but not necessarily Legionnaires, like Double Header.

I'm mostly familiar with the symbols of my favorite Legionnaires like Mon-El and Ultra Boy. As for the rest, the dialogue was usually helpful for me in pointing out who they were (which was really good with the more esoteric symbols). Although with that lightning bolt symbol, my first thought isn't Garth. It's Thunder: That's more about which version of the Legion you like the best though. A tougher question (for me at least) would be to give their actual names. That was the hardest bit about Giffen's 5YL storyline for me where their codenames were hardly used especially early on.
