HENRY CAVILL - Future JAMES BOND 007 Poll Locked on September 30th, 2018I was watching Mission Impossible the other day and having dinner with a dear friend of mine and we were discussing the possibility of Henry Cavill forgetting his Man of Steel role and his involvement of the Justice League and become the next actor to replace Daniel Craig as 007. He looks similar to Pierce Brosnan, George Lazenby, and Roger Moore in an effect and I think he'll make an excellent Bond and I was wondering if how you feel he should forget about Superman for good and concertrate on being 007 and face it -- he's 35 years old and could play 007 until he reach 45 and do a 4 and/or 5 pictures similar to Pierce Brosnan and make it stick. I was thinking about it for sometimes and I thought it would be a good discussion here in this forum and would love to hear from all of members here. Thanks Everyone for participating in it.

He should be the next 007 -- his role in Mission Impossible convinced me.

He was also good as Napoleon Solo in the Man from Uncle film, so I could certainly see him in the role though I wouldn't mind Idris Elba either.

I thought they were looking at Idris Elba to play him. I’d watch the $hit out of that movie.
Edit: I voted no.

I voted "Other", whatever that means as opposed to "Maybe". Basically, I haven't seen enough of him, just previews and things like that.
This reminds me that I meant to watch that Man from UNCLE movie, but I assume he plays Solo as the American character he's always been so I'm not sure that would give me an idea of how he'd come across as Bond. Which Mission Impossible movie is he in, the new one? If he plays a Brit in it that might be more helpful, as far as the Bond question is concerned.
Idris Elba has the acting ability and the screen presence to do whatever he wants, so I don't doubt he could play Bond. Whether I'd like it or not would depend on how they directed him, how he saw the character, how he chose to approach the role, etc, etc. There are a lot of intangibles that come into play so it's a bit unpredictable - I thought Brosnan would be a good Bond but his version never really worked for me, what I've seen of it, at least.

Of all the names thrown around these days, he’d be my choice. He’s got the presence, the class, and the feeling of raw power I want to see in Bond. My only worry is that he might be too old when the time comes! (The same thing happened to the guy I wanted to see play Conan, Ray Stevenson). Brosnan never quite worked for me as James Bond either. I much preferred Timothy Dalton.

"Brosnan never quite worked for me as James Bond either. I much preferred Timothy Dalton."I'm opposite of you and I'm understand your opinions and all that -- I had a hard time liking Timothy Dalton as 007 and I just felt that Brosnan was more to my style and charm. Dalton was excellent; but he lack something that Connery, Lazenby, and Moore had. I just felt that he didn't appealed to me in the first place and he did had that action appeal that Connery was noted for and that's was his strong points in the two movies that he did as 007. Roquefort Raider, at the time he was 007; he was suddenly replaced by Brosnan and Barbara Broccoli wanted Brosnan badly and did not want Dalton back at all. This is what I learned at the time that Brosnan replaces Dalton and lots of my friends back then did not care for Dalton at all and the time that we learned that Brosnan was in the running to replace Roger Moore -- he and NBC and the production staff of Remington Steele were battling each other for his service and NBC won. That's my understanding of how Brosnan became Dalton's replacement; and all that and that's why I felt that Brosnan was clearly was 007 at the time that he starred as the British SuperSpy altogether. Anyway, I do respect your choice of Dalton very much -- but I just prefer Brosnan why -- he had little bit of everything that Connery, Lazenby, and Moore had. Dalton and Brosnan were two different 007 and each of them had their style and distinctive characteristics that made them totally unique and that's the whole beauty of that. My favorite Bond was Connery, Connery, and Connery ...

Maybe.
I think Cavill would bring gravitas to playing Bond but I haven't seen enough of his work to properly judge. (Was The Man From Uncle film good?) I like his portrayal of Superman, I just don't like what's been done with that portrayal.
The same was said of Craig initially though, right? His acting background at that point, his looks as contrasted with the classic image of Bond, lack of inexperience in some skills ( For example, I remember some report about having to teach him how to drive a stick-shift auto perhaps?) When he was announced as Bond, the reaction was lukewarm. Then Casino Royale came out and Wow. I have to say, Craig is now my second favorite Bond actor after Connery so I would be willing to see what Cavill may do with the role if given the chance.
Brosnan was good, especially his first two films. Then the gadgets took over and the plots became even more ludicrous in his later films. (I've only seen The World Is Not Enough once in contrast to how many times I've seen the other Bond films).
Dalton was very good but far too brief. License to Kill is an amazing Bond film. Though I've read little of the original Fleming novels, I've always heard that Dalton's performance most closely resembled Fleming's characterization.
