This is becoming a very bad thread for me since I am attending a con as a guest in a few weeks where I know there will be a couple of vintage toy dealers...my wallet is trying to run and hide from me as I look over stuff posted here and remember fondly some of the toys from my childhood....  -M |

Damn, too many to list. Right now, probably my Remco Universal Movie Monster figures- they were similar to Star Wars figures in size and posability. I had Frankenstein, Dracula and Creature from the Black Lagoon.
That and my Advanced Dungeons and Dragons action figures, Secret Wars and Super Powers figures.
I had huge collections of He-Man, Transformers and G.I. Joe, but I really don't miss those.
My local library was previewing a Toy Museum they are getting ready to open here in Austin. They had a display of Indiana Jones toys, many of which I used to have. Now they are doing a display of old school Smurfs PVC figures, many of which I also used to have. It's cool to see that but also kind of a bummer.
As a Xmas present to myself this year, I am considering scouring Ebay and Amazon to find some figures to buy. Nothing too expensive and not even necessarily complete. Just a few cool ones. |

When I was little, I went to a flea market with my grandma. She allowed me to rummage through this box of loose toys an I found...  Deirdre, Knight of Tir Na Nog. She bought it for me and Deirdre (name unknown at the time to me) became my best friend in my lonely childhood. My uncle dealt in collectibles and he allowed me (more like he didn't really have a choice lol) to play with the extras. Deirdre led the Joes, lived in Skeletor's castle, rode Panthor and sometimes He-Man's Battle Cat into battle alongside the Thundercats, and owned all of Lionel Train systems. I lost her when I was 15 and had been hunting ever since, with little to go on until my Godfather was able to tell me based on a description and now I'm looking to buy her when a good deal pops up! |

The only toys I can remember by name, I gave to my boys. My Construx building "blocks" and my Battle Beast figures. Most of my other toys were of my own imagination or non descript generics. I did not have a wealthy childhood. I was by no means deprived, just not handed every thing I wanted. Now I don't like them so much anymore as I step on them for shoot them out the lawnmower. I've destroyed more Battle Beast as an adult then I ever did as a kid playing with them.

I had plenty of toys growing up, including all of the Star Wars figures from the original movie and Empire, as well as the first wave of RotJ figures, but there isn't a single one that I wish I still had outside of monetary reasons (some of those early Star Wars vehicles can fetch big bucks).
However, I'm currently splitting my hobby money and time trying to piece together sets of sports cards I collected when I was little. I am currently working on the 1979 Topps baseball card set along with the 1979-80 and 1980-81 O-Pee-Chee hockey card sets (I had the Topps versions, but these sets have more cards and are more desirable in the United States due to limited availability). Looking at them reminds me of getting my allowance and going to the newsstand with my dad on Sunday after church, at which time I would get a couple of packs of cards and a couple of comics, and that would last me the rest of the week in terms of entertainment.

This is displayed 180 degrees behind my head in my office right now...as I type this:  Super Powers is only my favorite action figure series of all time. I have shelves and shelves full of Transformers displayed in my office. I'll have to provide pics of all of it sometime. I haven't actively collected them in almost ten years, but I still adore the heck out of them. I was a die-hard when ebay first started and was even a mid-size seller on ebay for a while. But this one takes the cake... The only toys I can remember by name, I gave to my boys. My Construx building "blocks" Okay, so here's an obsession I have never shared here before. I've only been running a Construx website since 2003...  Yep. I may have just proven myself geeky even in the eyes of my fellow posters on a comic book discussion board  So is someone pulling my leg? Note to self: break into Shaxper's house...
It's not a childhood toy, but I just got my first stocking stuffer for my kids. I found a Tenth Doctor action figure at Wal-green's, of all places. Not sure if this is a new wave of them or not. That's her favorite Doctor so I figured I should get it when I see it. They also had a 12th Doctor and a Dalek.
If she finds out about the "Angels Take Manhattan" play set they have, I will end up being one of THOSE parents who do crazy things for Xmas presents. I know that is really the 11th Doctor scenario but the Weeping Angels are her favorite "nemesis." |

I don't know why, but I am vehemently opposed to getting member cards at every store I shop at. No, I will not allow you to track my buying habits in exchange for saving $2 that you should have given me anyway because you are running a sale. |

Yeah, action figure costs are outrageous. It's the main reason I don't have a more current collection of stuff. I don't know what happened there: price of oil, dollar value, etc. Now, maybe in 1983, my parents felt the same way about $3-4/figure and I just don't have any perspective, but it seems crazy.
I think it was on sale. Wal-green's is the only store I have a member card at because I used to get so many prescriptions there. |

Original G.I. Joe Action FiguresI had about 4-5 Original G.I. Joes that came along with several change of clothes including an Air Force Officer as a Colonel. I wished that I had these now - the reason why I don't have them anymore - my dear old Dad threw them out in the garbage 2-3 years before I had a chance to move out of his house. I had great fun playing with these so called "Action Figures" ... It would have to be these for me as well. I had several, as well as knock-offs from other companies. Sadly, they were all lost along with all my digest size comics and any other toys/remnants from my childhood (except my main cache of comics) when my mother allowed low-life relatives to live in our childhood home (we had moved to Florida at the time, but she still owned the old house). They trashed the place and threw out whatever we still had there. |

Both times Bandai reissued these, I bought up a few. I now have an army of five, and the only one I still wish I had was the all blue cartoon accurate Max Genius VF. |

Picked up the 10th Doctor and a gray Dalek. Now keeping an eye out for the 12th Doctor. One of the benefits of moving is we get a chance to sort and organize our stuff, and I had just put all our Doctor Who books together, in order of Doctor. So these figures went on top of that bookcase along w/an 11 inch bearded Matt Smith, a K-9 and Ambassador Kosh. Good enough justification, don't you think? |
