Looks like Gemma Chan is double dipping in the MCU. She'll be playing Sersi in the Eternals movie.

Photo of the cast at D23. Marvel Studios is going to have to bring it's A game for this one. The Eternals are really obscure in Marvel's comic history. Don't think Kirby's original run even made it past 20 issues.  |

Looks like Gemma Chan is double dipping in the MCU. She'll be playing Sersi in the Eternals movie. Possibly my favourite actress at the moment. She was criminally under-used in Captain Marvel - and I would say mis-used as well, since they obscured her look with bad make-up and had her speak with an American accent for no reason at all, as far as I could tell. I hope they make better use of her this time and that she and Salma Hayek have a lot of scenes together because the rest of the cast leaves me cold.
She isn't at all the voluptuous body type you'd associate with the character - but then the film-makers obviously aren't too interested in the source material, which makes the promotion of the film as a Kirby story so laughable. Not that I blame the Kirby family in the least for trying to get whatever they can out of the production.
However, looking on the bright side, she's playing what I assume will be a prominent role, unlike her throwaway part in CM, and I'll be happy to see two of my favourite actresses, Chan and Hayek, in the same movie.

Just read a report that someone is playing the Black Knight in this movie? Didn't know there was a connection, unless they just decided now to re-invent that character as an Eternal for the film version.

Sersi and the Black Knight were romantically involved for a long stretch in the Avengers when they were both members. There was even a love triangle with Crystal of the Inhumans while she was separated from Pietro. -M edit to add: it was the jacket era of the Avengers under Bob Harras... -M Oh yeah, I do remember hearing about that storyline, now that you mention it - I believe in an Avengers review thread here on Classics. Makes me wonder if there will be an Avengers or MU connection to the movie after all. |
