It has come to my attention that some of you who enjoy "Jingle Bells" are nevertheless dubious as to whether "Batman smells." Allow me to offer evidence for your consideration: No word as of yet concerning whether Robin laid an egg. In 2016, CBR devoted a surprisingly lengthy article to the origins of this bit of Christmas-themed doggerel, dating its widespread familiarity back to 1966 at the latest. The mudcat forum (home of the internet's musical folklorists) could do no better.

I'm sure he does smell. Sweating in that costume night after night? Poor Alfred.
And that scene in the second panel is one of my favorites from Grant Morrison's first JLA arc.

I got banned from the school bus for three days in seventh grade for singing the "Batman smells" variation one too many times for the driver's nerves. My mom had to drive me to school, which made her late for work, and pick me up after, which required her to leave work for an hour. She was not happy with me one little bit, so much so that the song has not crossed my lips once in the ensuing 49 years. Sure, she's been gone for 20 years but I'm fairly certain I'd get struck by lightning if I tried it.
Cei-U! I summon the lesson learned!

I always preferred my own parody version of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain".
"You're Bruce Wayne. I finally told the Joker about you."

What I love is the revisionism that attributes it to the Simpsons, We were singing it in school in 1970, when I was a kid.

But did the Batmobile lose it's wheels? I can't remember what it landed in... hay?
Batman had Alfred the butler to clean his costumes and press his capes though, so he ought not to smell so bad...

A holiday classic which everyone knows. And yet I cannot remember the when or how of learning this beloved holiday carol? Don't even know at what age I began chanting this wonderful tune. Is it some sort of spontaneous creation in children that we just instinctively "know" the tune and begin belting it out during the holidays for the 1st time? And kudos to BTOS for being daring and intelligent enough to include in the show.

There's a whole field of ethnomusicology given to interviewing adults about their childhood songs and rhymes and tracking the regional variations. This is one of the purest forms of folk music still extant today, since these songs do not get codified by recorded versions as often as other "folk songs" have.

We are neglecting the "smells" portion of the equation. What exactly is the Dark Knight smelling like? Dirty socks? Sweat filled leather boots? Urine stained and Poopie racing striped underpants? Too much corn beef and cabbage? Whaaaaaaat?!? Does the JLA make him stand down wind at meetings along with Aquaman and his salty fishiness?
