I used to have some Mexican Marvel comics that were really quite cool even though they were b&w reprints. They were a sort of large digest. I found the translations of character names particularly fun. Spider-Man was El Hombre-Araña, The Fantastic Four became Os Quatro Fantasticos, and the X-Men were Patrulla X. I know there were ads for Ghost Rider (Fantasmo something?) and Daredevil with his Without Fear subtitle also in Espanol. Thought maybe people might post some covers of Spanish language comics here. I'd love to see more of those '60s-'709s Mexican editions I remember if you run across any...   |

I just won these in the Lonestar auction last night, they are Spanish comic magazines featuring reprints of the Marvel B&W horror mags-don't have them in hand yet, but for $3 I couldn't pass up the lot out of sheer curiosity.  -M |

Escalofrio, something like Chilling? One of the El Hombre-Araña's I had reprinted Amazing Spider-Man #41 or 42 or both. The Rhino was in it and JJJ's pre-Man Wolf astronaut son. Here's a later X-Men/Patrulla X...  I wonder how Richie Rich and Casper The Ghost might translate... Ricardo De Los Muchos Pesos maybe? Or Casper, El Hijo Muerte?  |

I don't have it handy, but I once picked up a Spanish-language copy of (I believe) Prudence & Caution just as a novelty item for the collection (and to top off a purchase from a 10-for-a-dollar box)

I've mentioned this before, but many of the Mexican editions were weekly. Due to their popularity, many of the Marvel reprint series quickly ran out of material to reprint, so they just made up their own stories. There are hundreds of Mexican Marvel comics from the 70's that are all new storylines - technically out of continuity, but only sort of, as I'm sure the kids reading them probably didn't make a distinction.
I have a couple issues of Sgt. Fury that were entirely produced in Mexico, as the series there ran much longer than in the US; these new stories I have were produced after the Marvel series went to reprints. And I know there were dozens if not hundreds of issues of Spider-man down there that feature all-new, semi-official stories never published in America.

This reminds me of an extra credit project I did for my 9th grade Spanish class: I translated Amazing Spider-Man #104 into Spanish. It took me nearly a month and netted me an A++ (it helped immensely that comics at the time were always narrated in the present tense).

Childhood friend's father brought him home a Spanish DC title, when we were kids (from a business trip). It was one of the Super Sons stories, from Worlds Finest. He had already had that issue, in English (featured the pops in a prison camp).
Ironically, I had the third volume of No Pasaran (Vittorio Giardino) in Spanish, since the English edition was unavailable. It was fitting, since the story isset in late Civil War Spain.

Wow, interesting about Mexican drawn Spider-Man comics. I remember seeing some kind of Japanese version that was a lot like Kamen Black Rider long ago. If I could have just one Mexican Spider-Man it might be this to go with the various Man Wolf comics... Hombre Lobo! "Es Mi Hijo!" Take that Keith Giffen.  And here's another find on the spidermex.com site. It's somewhat hard to navigate but fun to poke around on... Los Vengadores!
