As you know, I've been talking since day one about hiring another artist to draw The Crimebusters so it can come out faster than I am able to do myself. Well, thanks to the success of the latest campaign, I think the serie shas progressed to the point where I can afford to do so. I'm excited to announce that artist Mac Radwanski will be drawing The Crimebusters #5. Hopefully, Mac will also want to stick around for future issues as well, but we're not putting the cart before the horse. Here's a look at Mac's cover for #5. Mac has a style that is exactly what I've imagined for the series - it has a simplicity and cartooniness that I think fits with my established aesthetic, but it's combined with bold blacks that give his art a noir feel. It's kind of got a bit of Batman cartoon to it, which is the vibe I want. Here's a page from the backup story with Loover and Granny Gumshoe where you can see the noir elements more:

Image compression is driving me crazy, I'm not sure why I can't get a crisp, clear image to upload or display anywhere anymore. But, here's the finished cover for issue #5:

Crimebuster 80th Anniversary Special is coming on August 15, and the pre-launch link is now live. This is a 100-page giant. Patterned after those classic DC 100-Page Giants, it will include 5 complete Crimebuster stories from the Golden Age that I have selected, as well as remastered and colorized versions of the stories from Crimebusters #1. But the part I'm super excited about - and humbled, and honored - is that will feature a never before published Crimebuster cover by one of the original Crimebuster artists from Boy Comics, the Golden and Silver Age legend George Tuska!! Here's the cover: Okay, I've been teasing this for a long time, including on our Zoom calls, but it's finally happening: the
A friend of mine who is a huge Lev Gleason fan had commissioned this image - full pencils - many years ago. With his permission, and the permission of the Tuska family, I had it inked, colored, and am now presenting it to the public for the first time!
Frankly, I think I'm going to take a bath on this one but it's worth it to put out something this cool.
I'll have more on this as we get closer to launch, but for now, here's the link again to the Kickstarter:

Nearly done with issue #5 of The Crimebusters. Looking at a late January launch probably -- I need time to print and ship Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #2 before I launch any more projects. Here's the new Trixie's Mysteries cover from artist Lenm. There's a small chance I may end up using this cover for issue #6 instead (long story...) but for now, I think it will for #5, and I think it might be the best Trixie's Mysteries variant cover yet!

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, The Crimebusters #5 will be coming to Kickstarter on January 30!I haven't announced this anywhere else yet, but the pre-launch page is now up for those who want to click the "Notify me on Launch" button to make sure you don't miss it. Here's the Boy Comics #124 variant. I may make some tweaks to the colors, but as you can see it's an homage to the cover of Rex the Wonder Dog #11 by Gil Kane, but with Squeeks taking the place of Rex, and Chuck and Trixie in the place of the humans.

We just passed the halfway mark towards funding, so thank you to everyone for your support, I really appreciate it!
I also wanted to let you know that I just added a couple add-ons some of you may or may not be interested in. They are on the pricey side, but it's two spots to be drawn into the next issue, issue #6 -- one as a hockey coach on a single page, and one as a murder victim who may be on a couple pages.
These are both one of one add-ons, and they are again on the expensive side of things, but if you want to get murdered in a comic and have Chuck and Trixie solve the case, this is your chance! These are both add-ons only, so if you've already pledged you can adjust your pledge level to select it as an add-on.
Thanks everyone!

Well, there's just over a week left and we've hit the initial funding goal. Thank you to everyone for your support! Still a long ways to go -- just between you and me, I need another grand to actually break even on this issue But there's a lot of time left, and this campaign has way way more followers than any previous issue. The most I have ever had for a Crimebusters issue is 77 at the end of a campaign; with a week left, I'm already at 136 for this issue. The trick is figuring out how to get those people to back. At the 48 hour mark they'll get a reminder email, so I'll be tweaking my campaign page so that hopefully when they go to check it again, it will be more enticing. We'll see how it goes! I wish I had any idea where all these followers are coming from so I can do it again next time. In the meantime, now that we've hit the initial funding goal, my artist Mac has started work on issue #6. You may remember last week I was aksing about classic covers where a creature is coming out of a painting -- I was trying to find a good comp to show him for the cover idea for #6. This is what he ultimately drew for the next issue cover - which is called "Whatever Happened to Uncle Sam?" in a little nod to the old DC stories about missing Golden Age characters.

By the way, it's really cool for me to be far enough along that some of my planning and plotting is actually happening now. I do have a long term plot laid out it just takes so long to do these issues that it's a waiting game for me to see it play out. I hope the readers find it rewarding too. For instance, if this cover maybe rings any distant bells in the back of your head, it could be because I first hinted at this story back in issue #2 So it's nice to finally get this far!

We're inside the final 72 hours now! The campaign has been going quite well, though I'm in the part where people are canceling their pledges. Usually the final 48 push makes up for the losses earlier in the week, so we'll see how it goes. I just had someone cancel a $135 pledge so it's going to take several new backers probably to make up for that, but it is what it is. I'll be doing a livestream as usual to count down the final hour of the campaign, it's 9 pm ET on Friday night, so feel free to join me! youtube.com/live/wb3aRyuEGrM

I sent this to the printer on Monday! So I should have the digital rewards out to everyone hopefully this weekend. I'm still trying to catch up from losing all of January to illness. My hope is that in the next couple of months I can finally get ahead on things a little bit, but we'll see how it goes. I mentioned in the Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam thread that now that this is sent to the printer, I'm doing another Kickstarter -- just a short, low stakes one to try and raise money to print up some blank cover variants of Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam #1 for sketching purposes. You can check it out here. I will also have an update soon on Quest #1, which I am hoping will be the next new thing I put out. My hope is that once I'm done with the digital rewards for Crimebusters #5 this weekend I can finally get the Quest #1 pages out to the colorist. My aim is to launch Quest #1 some time in May, but we'll see how it goes. In the meantime, my Crimebusters artist Mac Radwanski is already working on Crimebusters #6 -- he's finished 6 pages already, so unless something goes wrong we can expect issue #6 this fall. Since #6 features Uncle Sam, I have hired Jay Piscopo, the artist on Cthulhu vs. Uncle Sam, to do the Boy Comics #125 variant cover. Here's a look!

Issue #5 just arrived from the printer!
I've already started boxing them up. I want to get these all sent out before Quest #1 launches if I can.
Here's the unboxing video:
