This volume was so ingenious when it came out but I’m sure 90% of the entries are now alive and well. Not recalling everyone in the issue We all know for 100% that Gamora certainly is alive and well. Gamora, mantis, Nefaria, Dracula, Banshee. Heck, maybe everyone except Captain Marvel.

What is this? Boy Commandos with a Supergirl logo paste up? It's an ashcan created to secure copyright (or is it trademark?) on a title so that other companies can't use it. So long as DC put out about 30 or so issues of a previously seen Boy Commandos comic book with a 'Supergirl' logo on the cover, they could take action in court against any competitor who attempted to cash in on 'Superman' by doing a 'Supergirl' or 'Superboy' title (this would have been before DC had a Supergirl or Superboy). "See? We already did a comic called 'Supergirl'". Not only would these comics have less than 24 issues in a run (try less than two) I'm not even certain that there weren't less than 24 copies of each comic made. I just like seeing a Supergirl comic from 1944 fifteen years before the character even existed with a Simon and Kirby Boy Commandos team racing into action.

Weird that they would use Boy Commandos art for a Supergirl cover. Must have been a Kirby fan in the art department.

At the time Simon and Kirby were da bomb (yeah, I guess that's a weak attempt at a WW II pun ...sorry!) Anyway, ashcans weren't uncommon. This was just for in-house, not distributed to newsstands, for purposes of securing the "Supergirl" name as cw noted. More at gcd www.comics.org/issue/213359/ among other sites

I'm just curious who going to win this contest and frankly -- I'm having a hard time finding the best one.

I'm just curious who going to win this contest and frankly -- I'm having a hard time finding the best one. Always a hard choice. Do we vote for the best cover, or do we take into account how we feel about that issue or series. I pare down the choices in this order: First, does it fully meet the criteria? (In this contest, is the entry really the final issue of a series that lasted no more than 24 issues?) Next, does it meet the spirit of the topic? (The topic post, in my interpretation, suggests comics that were cancelled, rather than those intended to run a limited number.) Then, do I find the cover appealing or interesting enough to consider it? And the final discriminator between those that made it this far: Which do I have the most personal affinity/affection for?
