Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse won an Oscar for best animated feature and Black Panther won for Best Original Score, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. I never thought I'd see the day where super-hero movies were Oscar contenders let alone winning. Congrats Marvel.

Um.....Superman was nominated Best Film Editing, Best Score, Best Sound and won a Special Achievement award for Visual Effects, in 1979 and Anton Furst and Peter Young won for Production Design in 1990. So, not quite a new phenomena; but, very rare. The Black Panther awards were definitely well deserved as they really created something special, while showcasing as much real African cultural influence as possible. Haven't seen Into the Spiderverse; but, it's nice to see and adventure animated film win and not just a Pixar or derivative movie win (or just Miyazaki films). Had that category been around, I have no doubt that Batman, Mask of the phantasm would have been a shoe-in. However, the category wasn't added until 2001.
The Fleischer short, Superman, was nominated for Best Animated Short, in 1942; but, lost to Disney's "Lend A Paw."
The Incredibles won Best Animated Feature and is a superhero film, even if it was not an adapted one.
