With some supervillain vs supervillain scenarios, you can probably accurately predict a winner. Should Abomination take on Hobgoblin, chances are Hobby is gonna suffer. Other scenarios may be slightly tough to predict. Who would win out of Doom and Mandarin? But you can probably make an educated guess (my money is on Doom!).
Other scenarios, though, seem unpredictable. And that's the fun of comics and discussion of such things!
For example, I'd love to see a Juggernaut VS Destroyer battle. Truly the irresistible force meeting the immovable object. But I can't predict that one. Juggy's forward momentum cannot be stopped (if I have it right) so he could probably inflict some damage on Destroyer. But Destroyer is no pushover - and I am convinced he could inflict damage on Juggy. It's hard to predict, though, because we're talking about the Crimson Gem of Cytorrak versus Asgardian magic. How on earth could anyone bet on a winner?
Then there are scenarios like Dormammu VS Galactus. I do remember magic affecting Galactus, but wasn't that when numerous superheroes were throwing everything they could at the Big G? And didn't Dr. Strange really just play one part in it all? Not to diminish the good doctor's efforts, but Dormammu VS Galactus could be a different ball game. If it's just Dormammu VS Galactus, both have a lot they can throw at each other. But it poses other questions, e.g. could Galactus consume the energy of the Dark Dimension?
(Thread drift, could Galactus consume the energies of Bizarro World? Answers on a postcard...)
These are the questions that keep me pondering while waiting for a fare. I know it's all down to the writers at the end of the day - if a writer wants to have Batman take out Galactus, he/she could - but I've always wondered about it. And that's before we get onto another scenarios, e.g. how would Juggy and his Crimson Gem of Cytorrak powers fare in the Dark Dimension? Could he shrug off Dormammu's magic?
And while I think Dormammu is powerful than Mephisto and Nightmare, sometimes "hometown advantage" can be a thing. In Dormammu's Dark Dimension, I cannot imagine Mephisto or Nightmare being victorious. But in Mephisto's realm, or the Dream Dimension, would Dormammu be at a disadvantage? And then there's Asgard...and that's enough questions for the day.
For anyone wishing to contribute, feel free to answer all questions, some questions, one question, etc.
So, to sum it up:
1.) Juggernaut and his Crimson Gem of Cytorrak powers VS Destroyer/Asgardian magic? Juggy or Destroyer?
2.) Dormammu VS Galactus?
3.) Could Galactus consume the energies of Bizarro World?
4.) Dormammu VS Mephisto?
5.) Dormammu VS Nightmare?
For questions #4 and #5, I'd appreciate any views on whether you think "hometown advantage" would work.
