Flame wars on a board that's supposed to be fun?
Slam, I apologise. Unreservedly. No excuse, defense, explanation. I mean that.

Besides, Slam is like Galactus, a force of nature. If you survive his critique, you are worthy.

I should have checked or waited to find out what he meant. :-)

Yeah , there was a rumbles section to the other forum, I never went there. I feel it’s okay to talk about power levels in passing but it’s geek hell to extend that type of discussion page after page.

While I love me some Asgardian-enraged destruction via the Destroyer, I have to give the edge to Juggernaut in that match-up.
Cain's main weakness is his mind, mental assaults, a disadvantage that the Destroyer has no way to access nor utilize. It's physical force versus physical force. Juggernaut is the ultimate physical force that I think should prevail over the Destroyer eventually in such a battle.
Now, as for an earlier point you brought up, yes any writer can create a scenario in which this character can beat this character no matter the odds. However there is such a thing as taking such a feat too far and DC writers did this to the MAX with Batman. Suddenly he was the Man With The Contingency Plan! He could beat anyone, anywhere, anytime.
What hogwash. Enabling that cheapens the character to me. Yes, he's human (a highly trained, physically fit human but still) cavorting around with mystics, superhumans, and demigods. It's such human frailty as he has in those high stake moments that resonate with me about the character rather than being oh-so-wowed! that he went to Apokolips with the JLA and was able to b1tch-sl@p Darkseid!
By that token logic, Cap should have been able to tear the Infinity Gauntlet off of Thanos' hand and slap him across the face with it before pummeling him.

Along these lines, one of my favorite Marvel moments was written by Jim Shooter, of all people. In Secret Wars #12, Doctor Doom has gained the power of the Beyonder and used it to incinerate all the heroes. But Doom can't shake the fear that Captain America will somehow come back, because he always does, and so Doom's subconscious keeps resurrecting Captain America over and over; the idea of him is just too powerful to stay dead! And yes, he does get close enough to slap Doom across the face, though Doom crumples to the floor without even being touched.

I like discussing it in general terms, e.g. how effective is magic against Galactus? It's as general as me asking if He-Man could beat Hulk in arm wrestling. But I never get into RPG-style specifics (not that there's anything wrong with that). One issue I had with the OHOTMU comics was how they delved too deeply into semantics and quantifying everything.

Exactly, it’s all written down until a new creator decides that squirrel girl can beat Thanos.

Apologies in advance for thread drift, but sometimes it can be done well. Those Spidey VS Firelord stories were written in a way that showed how the underdog could survive - and given Parker didn't want an innocent person to suffer due to Firelord's rampage, it gave him even more motivation. He was tempted to give up the fight, but then thought about how someone like Uncle Ben could be hurt by Firelord.
But if we had a DC/Marvel crossover where Bats took down Galactus (without help), no matter how well-written, I couldn't accept that.
Please tell me the Squirrel Girl/Galactus encounter is non-canonical.

Please tell me the Squirrel Girl/Galactus encounter is non-canonical. It is both canonical and worthy of reading, as is Squirrel Girl in general.

Cei-U! ... it's not for the reason you suggest. I need another clarification regarding your thoughts in Bold? ... Thanks. You said Destroyer was powerful enough to handle the Celestials. I pointed out that the Celestials took Destroyer down effortlessly, and provided the artwork showing it. Therefore, you can't credibly argue that Destroyer can beat Juggernaut based on his encounter with the Celestials. How was that not clear? Cei-U! I summon the head-scratcher!
Got it now ... thanks again.

Flame wars on a board that's supposed to be fun? Slam, I apologise. Unreservedly. No excuse, defense, explanation. I mean that. Not a problem. It honestly was a joke for the old farts among us. And I probably should have made sure that was more clear. As Kurt pointed out, some of us have been posting together for a long time. I started at CBR (from whence we came) in 1997 or early 98 and Cei-U was already there. No harm meant.

As you've been around since 1997/98, I look forward to learning more from you and others. Being the "newbie", I am sure I can learn a lot (and my questions here have always been answered, plus the reviews are great).

Us old farts sometimes forget the newer members don't realize this forum was a sub forum on the old CBR forums. When CBR rebooted in 2014 the classic comics sub forum disappeared and shaxper (thanks again!) started this forum here... giving us a new home that frankly I think is better.
I think many of us have been on newsarama's old forums and CBR's old forums since the mid 90's. I am still grateful that I was invited here back when CBR imploded.

Yeah , there was a rumbles section to the other forum, I never went there. I feel it’s okay to talk about power levels in passing but it’s geek hell to extend that type of discussion page after page. Man, the Rumbles board was just the worst, wasn't it? I mean, I have very little interest in "who can beat who" nerdy conversations anyway (no offense meant towards the OP of this thread, it's just not my thing), but the Rumbles board just seemed to always be full of vaugly educationally sub-normal man-babies slagging each other off for some ridiculously pedantic nerdy reason. It really was a hateful place. Off topic a bit, but I never much liked YABS either. That always felt like a very cliquey place that could frequently turn nasty. Basically, the longer I posted there, the more I realised that theClassic Comics forum was the only place on the old CBR forums worth a damn. Anyway, I digress. Back to the superhero wrestling death-match!
