Russ Maheras, a 'zine creator who corresponded with Steve Ditko for a couple of decades and visited him on occasion has written an article about Ditko's "Sanctum Santorum" offering some insight into the reclusive Ditko, and it is an interesting read, especially for Ditko fans. -M

Great account of a couple of face to face encounters with Ditko there, mrp. Really interesting to read. Thanks for posting that.
In particular, it was fascinating to read that Ditko says he "was absolutely going to make Norman Osborne the Green Goblin." That seems to put the kibosh on the theory I've read in a number of places that Ditko and Lee fell out because Ditko wanted the Goblin to be a random unknown character. Like I say, fascinating article.

Also, it has been a while since I read early ASM issues consecutively. Interesting how in the article, it is mentioned that Ditko and Lee stopped talking regularly around issue 18. I would be interested in seeing if the dialogue from subsequent stories matched the visuals. I forget who it was here that tried to show, using early FF issues, that the dialogue and artwork did not match well. It would be interesting to do this for ASM and see if the quality of storytelling is better or worse after 18 or if there are definite moments of disconnect between what we see visually in the images and what Stan decided to write as dialogue. After all, Ditko would have been capturing the mood and feel of the story he created. Stan would be viewing it after the fact and without talking to him and adding his own take on what was being said. Not something I have the time (unfortunately) to undertake but perhaps some eager sleuth on here could investigate this
