Archie 703: the mystery of what happened to Reggie’s father deepens as Reggie asks Jughead for help. Betty, Veronica, And Cheryl hatch an elaborate plan to find out who Archie is secretly dating. Great issue with page time for the usual gang plus Sabrina, Josie and the Pussycats, And Cheryl. The art is good, not quite on par with Marguerite Sauvage , but Sandy Jarrell holds her own drawing Riverdale’s fashionable cast. The story is moving right along and is reminiscent of the show. 8/10

BPRD #161Written by Mike Mignola and Scott Allie Art by Laurence Campbell Summary: The final battle is here, twelve rounds, no submissions; Good versus Evil for the fate of the World. Plot: My summary promises a big bout and I'm sad to say that the actual result was far more muted. I mean, we always knew it would be Hellboy fighting he good fight so that Mignola disposed of Abe and Liz was not unexpected...but it was so quick that they both felt meaningless which has been an issue with Mignola's writing as he's wound down his tale, these are big characters that we've lived with for years and to have their deaths be so trivial just seems like a great disservice. It's realistic to see that no one stops and weeps as these heroes perished in battle...but this isn't real life, it's a piece of narrative fiction so a little catharsis is needed in my mind and the lack of that makes it feel hollow which just isn't the emotion you want in what is really your final issue as the set up for the next issue had the tone of an epilogue than a true ending. Now, perhaps that could all be forgiven if we were treated to a truly epic final show down between Hellboy and Rasputin...but we didn't get that, Rasputin got in a few jabs and somehow chopped off Hellboy's right hand of doom...but then Hellboy just snapped his neck and they both fell down dead returning Hellboy to his spirit form. Again, this was what I expected, there was no way this was going to end up with Hellboy walking into the sunset and everyone living happily ever after but I expected it to be an awesome spectacle and it just wasn't. Art: I usually love Campbell's art but his pencils were just muddy here... I literally have no idea what Rasputin was doing to Hellboy in their fight or how he chopped off the Hand of doom. It just felt very rushed which is odd given the break they had before this arc. Grade:4/10

Immortal Hulk #15Written by Al Ewing Art by Joe Bennett Summary: Doc Samson and the Hulk "sit down" for a session and discuss life and death and learn another friend is back. Plot: This is another issue with a lot of past continuity to unpack with the death of Doc Samson and also Rick Jones who showed up in Hell a few issues with out any preamble but Ewing did pretty well with it and I loved tying the current Hulk into the "Devil Hulk" persona from PAD's run. I said in the past that I didn't like a talkative Hulk, and boy did the Hulk talk here, but the conversation between him and Samson was really strong so I didn't mind it here. I'm vaguely aware that Rick became an Abomination clone so I'm interested in how he is when he comes back on the scene. Art: Bennett didn't get to do a whole lot here with most of the book being a conversation between the Hulk and Samson but I loved the brief scenes of destruction as the Hulk described all the ways humanity was destroying the Earth, and the set dressings in Samson'a apartment were amazing. Grade:7/10
