Maybe because Speedy is a lousy character. Boring , man. They were ALL boring characters prior to Wolfman Every time I saw Speedy in the NTT book, he never made an impact. Although In the Baxter edition, the ongoing relationship with Cheshire was a bit intriguing.

I have to say that the Baxter edition of New Teen titans was such a scam. They made you pay more for different paper and then canceled the cheaper one. They digit with LOSH too , but I don't think it was as popular. My biggest objection to the Baxter volume was that it gave the impression of offering greater quality just as Perez was stepping off the book. As a kid, I was struggling to pay for those issues that paled in comparison to what had previously been very affordable.

Beyond that, he always brought drama and conflict to the team, for better or worse. Rozakis really played him up as the team asshole in #44-52, and he's the one who finally broke up the team in #53.

I only really read him in the NTT book. I was really turned off with the original title when they took away their costumes and had them in plain clothes.

They had some crappy Artists doing the work from around 51 to 58. Rich Buckler did an issue and I was disappointed at the job. I have to admit to never liking Romeo Tanghals inking.

And hey, it's worth remembering the NTT only real early crossovers in the main DCU was via Wonder Woman They guest appeared in SO MANY titles during that era! I have all of them (I think), but I need to seriously deliberate as to whether I'll be including any of those appearances in this review thread. Maybe just the ones that Wolfman and/or Perez contributed to.

I get that the marketers think younger heroes are more relatable, but honestly, even as a high schooler reading these for the first time, I felt like Roy was more more 'real' and interesting as a semi-single dad than he ever was a a playboy teen sidekick.

I really like him... I thought he was good on Titans, and is amazing on Green Lantern. To each their own I suppose. And, to be fair, I haven't read those Titans issues in a while, maybe I've got the rose-colored nostalgia glasses going on.

Does anyone know why Speedy was cut from the team? My guess has always been that he and Kid Flash were too redundant and easy to confuse. They were both the team cynic, and Speedy's name always sounded like it should have been Kid Flash's. I suppose the former drug user thing might have been a factor too? According to Wolfman he brought back the prior members that he liked. So it seems likely that Wolfman just didn't like Speedy.

]Aqualad is feeling really hurt right now. And so he should! Once Haney was gone, he was never used as a core member again. Bad fishboy! No one likes you.

Speedy...maybe he was left out since Robin was more popular and had cool gadgets (no need for gadget arrows)? I liked Speedy and always wondered what his relationship with Wonder Girl would have been like under Wolfman/Perez. One character I did like from this era was Frances Kane. She could have easily been introduced in the Scooby era with the demonic possession (really Dr. Polaris) angle and Lilith would have had been prominent in that story. Loved the story around issue 29 or 30 where Raven is totally losing it and Kid Flash, Speedy, and Frances get some big page time. Man, all these great memories!!!! Funny to be thinking about this era today just as Figures Toy Company announced a Terra action figure today!

You know... Aqualad may be really lame... but TEMPEST is not! (Not that he ever did a whole lot with the Titans, but...)
