"Check out the action lines of excitement exuded by Robin's head! Very manga."
Perez used to do that ALL THE TIME, often creating intricate "mazes" of excitement lines exploding from chaacterss. This goes back at least as far as "SONS OF THE TIGER".

Issue #10--I think this was the issue where I finally accepted Lilith, Mal, Hawk, Dove, Speedy, and Aqualad weren't coming back--and I was cool with it at that point as this was an excellent issue. The pace, suspense, and ending...all perfect 80s Titans. Great review! *one thing I remember about the issue I had--it had a double cover. I thought it would eventually be worth something, but I think I took one of the covers off and hung it on my wall, haha!

This post made me laugh, you expected those other Titans to walk in by issue # 10 ? They were the reason the other book tanked.

New Teen Titans #10 (August 1981) "Promethium Unbound!" Script: George Pérez (plot); Marv Wolfman (plot, script) Pencils: George Pérez (breakdowns); Romeo Tanghal (finished art) Inks: Romeo Tanghal Colors: Adrienne Roy Letters: Ben Oda Grade: B I was on vacation when this was posted, so I'm a bit late to the party. The particulars of Deathstroke's knowledge of H.I.V.E. in the early issues is not fresh in my mind. But he seems like a sharp guy with a lot of resources that would be able to figure this out. The idea of the whole team having such difficulty with Deathstroke seems implausible, which may be why Deathstroke has an army of mercenaries behind him at the climax of this issue and Gar actually takes him on one-on-one, albeit with disastrous results. I wonder how many reader thought Gar was actually dead. This was an era in which X-Men (often compared with NTT) had killed Phoenix within the past year, and Thunderbird had died but never returned. Yeah, he does have a good grasp on the character. He seems to have a very formalistic notion of his professional reputation and responsibilities. He has to fulfill the contract. But yet, he betrays the bidders, so that would seemingly ruin his professional reputation. Action is consistently a strength with this book. I know other folks have discussed that Perez did more like layouts in earlier issues with Tanghal having a big role. More recent issues feel strongly like Perez. Yes, Wolfman really tries to make sure his comic relief character has an internal psychology that explains where he's coming from and lets him work in the serious moments. On the other hand, he does like the wacky gags, that trample suspension of disbelief. I didn't mind this so much. It's a bit odd, but I don't think there were conversations in past issues that precluded this. This is a DC comic, so I wouldn't say it's Qaddafi. It's going to be close enough that it's not discordant. There won't be a sultan of Libya. But he can kill off one military officer/head of state of Libya, and then have another show up as needed. He's much heavier than Qaddafi was at that point. And Qaddafi wasn't the former leader of Libya. Although the official head of state of Libya changed every few years, Qaddafi remained in control over these figureheads. Nicely done, and a set up as the Steve Dayton story plays out. The whole plot makes no sense. How did Slade not know the Titans were plotting against him. Did he knock them out off-panel only for them to recover. Or did he just get them to promise to lie on the ground. It seems like the latter, which is not good evil planning. And why does he need to engage in all this elaborate plotting when he has a nuclear bomb. I don't know what's going on the with the promethium. And I'd like to point again that Slade is repeatedly called the Terminator. I don't think I saw the name Deathstroke once in this issue. Wolfman seems to have a distinct preference for calling him Terminator at this point, with Deathstroke an afterthought that rarely comes up. This is why I fall into the camp that thinks they got cold feet. I could imagine, based on the art, that Vic is in love with Sarah even when this issue is plotted and drawn, but there's a reversal in the scripting.

I hope not. shaxper, what say you ? For the moment, yes. Seems like folks weren't particularly interested in what I had to say about the issues, so it was a waste of my time. You can start another thread, just post the cover and credits, and get pretty much the same discussion (and you really are welcome to do that). But reviews take me 1-2 hours to write each, so that's about 15 to 20 hours I've already put into this thread with very little of it seeming to have been meaningful to anyone. Not sulking or anything. Just putting my energy where it's better appreciated.

I totally disagree with that. This thread had plenty of members that were following and interested.

Lots of us are reading and following along, maybe just not as vocal in responding unless something special to say or note. Partly your own fault shaxper for doing such thorough reviews!

That's kind of you, my friend. No, there was TONS of discussion. It just amazed me how often folks would make a comment about the issue as if I hadn't just written the same thing in my review. It quickly became clear that the vast majority of conversation (which, by the way, was totally burying my reviews) was by people who weren't even reading my reviews. So I think all of those people would be totally content in a thread where you just post the cover and credits and then invite them to discuss their own thoughts/memories on the topic.

I for one , read and responded to your reviews sometimes disagreeing. Cmon, I actually pulled out my NTT issues and read along with you. I know you did. Not trying to turn this into a big thing, nor am I trying to shame/guilt-trip anyone. I was putting in a lot of time and seeing my reviews get buried by largely off-topic discussion where nearly everyone involved clearly hadn't even read my reviews. Not everyone, but nearly everyone. So I'm moving on and making better use of my time in threads where my reviews get read and discussed by more people and buried less often. I may come back to this eventually. Not anytime soon/
