Don't let yourself go all bug-eyed over this one folks. There seems to be quite a few insect themed folks in the various universes out there. Can you figure out which bug themed superhero/supervillian powers you like and could most want to have? Yes, it is a quick and dirty list so feel free to name and choose a specific where there are multiple versions (like Blue Beetle 1, 2, 3, Spider-Woman 1, 2, 3 and not to mention Spider-Gwen/Ghost, Tarantula in DC and Marvel 1, 2,3, etc) to work with or go other with more details.
What child didn't go through a bug phase with collecting, studying and marveling at these minuscule powerhouses of nature? Many an hour of my youth was spent with capturing various insects and using my microscope to enlarge my understanding of the insect world. From fly's to ants, to preying mantis (there is one I wish somebody had done something with), to bee's and moths and butterflies there is such a wealth of variety amidst nature's insect world to choose from. What are your own choices and thoughts?
My # 1 choice is the also my first recognized bug from cartoons as a child: Up and Atom with the one and only Atom Ant with his atomic powers of flight, strength, invulnerability and super speed! Saturday morning was great fun watching Atom Ant defeat the evil-doers as he zipped around the world assisting the police. The original tiny titan of power was a big cartoon fave during my childhood. My parents can attest to this from all the drawings I created in the margins of books and magazines of Atom Ant.
Second choice goes to that web-headed wall crawler Peter Parker, The Amazing Spider-Man who once his comic book was in my hands I was instantly hooked. Clinging to walls, spinning webs from his self created web shooters and swinging around town overhead. And good ol' Spidey no matter how rotten life was still had the energy and enthusiasm to hang in there being a hero to the masses and annoying J.J.J! And Peter grew from the shy reclusive ostracized nerd to becoming a real hep cat and hanging with his friends at the local coffee shop and clubs and finding the most beautiful and interesting ladies being interested him while fighting some of the greatest villains ever created in comic books. Spidey was truly awe inspiring...
So break out your amateur entomology skills and choose your favorite invertebrate!
