As Tom Holland explains before the trailer, if you haven't seen Avengers Endgame first, there are major spoilers ahead.

The costume looks good but I wonder if this Mysterio is going to bear any other relation to the one we know. It's hard to see how any of that stuff could be illusion.

Does anyone know who Nick Fury is supposed to be working for at this point in the MCU? Since the movies don't tie into the TV shows, I'm assuming that S.H.I.E.L.D. is still defunct as far as the movies are concerned. I find it hard to believe that he and Maria Hill are just off on their own, given the resources that they seem to command.

I went from liking what I saw in the original trailer to not liking what I see now.
First, the mention of a multiverse? Ugh. If there is one thing that irked me about Endgame, it was the use of time travel. I hate it. No one ever does it well enough where it makes any sense, there are always inconsistencies and plot points that are messed up as a result of time travel. Now, we have Mysterio claiming to be from another dimension (which I think seems like an obvious lie because he is a trickster). There has to be something more elaborate to this plot which, I am sure there is, but this multiverse idea and hangover of unexplained time travel stuff from Endgame annoys me more than anything.

Rumor is multiverse is how they will introduce FF and X-Men into the MCU without mucking up what ha already been established in the first 3 phases of the MCU. -M

A closer look at details in the trailer.
I'm in the camp that the multiverse angle is only half true. Mysterio is lying about something. I would say the entire angle is made up, because that just doesn't sound like something that would be put in a trailer by Marvel. It's too big of a reveal. At the same time though, I don't see how else you can introduce other franchises like the X-Men or Fantastic Four into the MCU without something along those lines, since the main question would be where have they been at this entire time. Especially mutants.

Well, there is apparently an alternate universe Coulson in the Agents of SHIELD.

I think a multiverse makes alot of sense... it lets you have your cake and eat it too.... I always thought DC was dumb to get rid of it... As long as you don't get too carried away (which Marvel tends to do in the comics). I'll withhold judgement until I see how they use it.
I love that Happy Hogan is Spidey's sidekick/mentor though.. fantastic.

Doesn't Into the Spider-Verse deal with a multiverse as well? It went over extremely well with audiences and critics, specially for an animated film, so it's success may pave the way for having a multiverse in the MCU proper.

I like this person's idea for how to get the FF convincingly into the MCU:

Getting FF into the MCU is easy if they are just now taking their space flight, or whatever accident will give them their powers-- maybe trying to enter the quantum realm?
Getting the X-Men in wouldn't be hard either, if they are just getting started. You could even claim that the Chitauri attack through the wormhole also sprayed New York City with some Plotdevicium which is starting to activate latent mutation genes in select humans. If you need to have Xavier and a few other old mutants around from previous generations, just say they were lying low for fear of persecution.

Huh, just looked through this thread the first time today. I have to say, there's nothing new about that proposal for folding the FF into the current MCU. About 3-4 years ago, when speculation about the FF rights reverting to Marvel was making the rounds, I made a very similar suggestion on another blog, i.e., they travel into the Negative Zone (Quantum Realm is a good substitute) at the end of their first movie, set in the early 1960s, and come out in the present. I think the topic came up on a thread here as well more recently, except I forgot which one.

I really hope Marvel does not use the multiverse as the means to introduce mutants or FF to the main MCU. It feels like a kludgey fix, and too similar to what the CW DC shows are already doing. I also hope they do not use the Snap or any other catastrophic event as the trigger for introducing mutants because that feels too much like what Marvel TV already did with the Inhumans.
One of the reasons why the MCU has worked so well thus far IMO is because it showed evidence of long-term planning and willingness to plant seeds that will pay off much later on. I think they have plenty of time to set things up for the eventual introduction of either of those sides of the Marvel universe in way that feels natural. I also think that with Fox already having gone to the well multiple times with the X-Men, Disney would do well to make some drastic changes when the bring the X-Men into the MCU, not unlike what was done with Spider-Man.

Saw this a few days ago. It was typical Marvel, which for me was decent, but not great. I'm not a huge Spider Man fan to begin with, but I still enjoyed it. Jake G was great, which isn't a surprise. There are two post credit scenes. The first one being the more worthy one. The second one is just barely worth sticking around for. Interesting, but doesn't really tell you anything about the next phase which was a little disappointing to me. I'm hoping Kevin Fiege blows the doors off at comic con this year with a rundown of what's to come.
