I picked up 2000ad prog 2130 last week, it was advertise as 'all ages takeover' with Tharg's nephew meant to have been in control that week I read it, it was longer than the regular comic and more expensive but not sure it really worked. For last year for FCBD it was an all ages/kid friendly addition too and seemed to work better in a shorter format so was hoping this would be good too and was little disappointed. With the Dredd story at least, it was good and had classic Dredd feel with title Cadet Dredd vs Grudzilla, though I'm not sure the drawings or story were very kid friendly, unless maybe 'all ages' and 'kid friendly' are to be taken as different things maybe? I only read 2000ad stuff really but is this kind thing common in DC/Marvel? I can easily see Batman being kid friendly but not Dredd any more than could make Deadpool without it seeming a little odd.

Most Marvel and DC these days is not especially kid friendly.. the target market is definitely the Silver Age fan that they hope still has a pull list. There are a few books that are specifically marketed to kids (like Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur or Ms. Marvel) through scholastic, though. DC has had a bunch of kid-friendly imprints, but I haven't really seen for myself.
I don't think kids today are really interested in reading about Superheroes, they like'em on TV and at the movies.

My nephew loves batman now (might be my fault lol) but if he read anything have to wait until he is old enough to be able to read. Making a charter for the purpose seems more sensible than trying to make another fit for different generation especially if character is kinda adult in nature with themes

Søren, I read that 2000 AD issue, too. Your views are eerily akin to mine.
I give it 10 out of 10 for the idea, but perhaps 3 out of 10 for the execution. I liked seeing Cadet Dredd, but the art certainly wasn't all ages. Not sure the all-ages format worked for the other stories in that issue. I mean, Rogue Trooper's tale didn't seem all-ages.
Nice idea. Nice of them to try it once. But it didn't totally work for me.

Apart from the white helmet they way he was drawn with Rico they really didn't look far off from Full Eagle but in the FCBD last year he does actually look young and more cadet like which guess they would want to go for if appealing to kids Actually thought this weeks prog with the 'Chimpsky' Dredd story was much more all ages with story and art with the redacted Dredd stuff in the text... <intimidating threat of incarceration> <suspicious snarl> <legally permitted expletive> -Important sounding judge stuff- <important sounding reply stuff> Appealed to my childish sense of humour , makes me wonder if they mixed weeks up lol But agree the Rouge Trooper story was odd too, as character he more kid unfriendly then Dredd really.

No, I guess he didn't look like a cadet.
My reading of the comic has been sporadic for a long time - who has the money? - so I'm wondering, is this the first Cadet Dredd flashback tale?

There have been a few stories and couple of novels focusing on Dredd times as a cadet, its made pretty clear that its common cadets die in training and that's perfectly normal so those are the first that are meant to be kid friendly as far as I'm aware
