Excellent choice, brutalis ! So much to love about Silverado. I've never known a station to run Westerns on Thanksgiving, but it sounds great to me. When I was a kid living in the NYC area, we watched two once-a-year classics that day: "March of the Wooden Soldiers" in the morning on Channel 11 and "King Kong" on Channel 9 in the late afternoon. On the Western note, I've been watching the old "Cheyenne" shows. How can you not like Clint Walker? And most of the shows feature fine acting, excellent guest stars, good plots, way above the average TV Western. And the melancholy theme remains haunting no matter how often you hear it. For a chaser, I've been catching the occasional "Wild, Wild West," with the great Ross Martin stealing virtually every scene.

Western movies all day long to watch whenever you are awake between turkey naps from nibbling. And Cheyenne is terrific. Clint is a pure joy to watch. Fun to see familiar faces and figuring out where you saw them in other TV shows or movies. I also keep an eye out for ANY of big ol' Clint's movies.

Don't get Grit, but Me-TV and the Screen Pix Westerns Channel give me a hearty helpin' of six-gun excitement!

When I was a kid in central Indiana, Channel Four in Indianapolis would show King Kong in the afternoon every Thanksgiving. By the time I was ten years old, I’m sure I had seen King Kong at least four or five times. I remember telling my great-grandmother what time King Kong was on so that it wouldn’t be interrupted by a mere Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm almost positive Bruce knew of the wonderful book and series, "Lonesome Dove," and reading over his posts and the reactions of this community made me think of the epitaph Larry McMurtry essentially lifted for one of his characters from that of an actual Black cowboy named Bose Ikard.
I think literally and metaphorically it captures Bruce's steadfast character. Especially "cheerful in all weathers."
And this portrayal comes as close as I can get to expressing the mixture of sadness and disbelief I've been experiencing since readign about Bruce's untimely death.
Pea Eye Parker: "What's it read, Gus?"
Gus McCrae: It says, "'Josh Deets. Served with me 30 years. Fought In 21 engagements with the Comanche and the Kiowa. Cheerful in all weathers. Never shirked a task. Splendid behavior.'
That's what it says."
