Definitive? How about model sheets by Jose Garcia Lopez that defined the look of the DC characters for a generation... or the model sheets for Space Ghost by Alex Toth... or Zartan of the Herculoids... or even his Green Arrow model sheet from Super Friends... Doug Wildley's model sheet for Race Bannon... Dave Cockrum's model sheet for Colossus... these kind of model sheets were the defining looks of the characters as they served as the basis for how every work-for-hire artist who worked on the characters after they were created drew the characters, and for how they looked on all the merchandise associated with the characters. It's harder to get much more definitive than that. -M

Toth forget to send you the updated model sheet, when they changed the name to Zandor? I was downloading through my medium's crystal ball, so the info was a bit sketchy... -M

While I had seen the cartoon in reruns this was the first Spidy comic I ever read and the cover image has stuck with me

Also definitive to me, moreso than any single cover, were the images in the Marvel Corner boxes, which identified books for me when I was flipping through the spinner racks... it's one of the things that made the Marvel books stand out to this young reader, and the images were iconic for me. When I tried my hand at drawing or tracing as a kid, it was these images more often than note that I tried to emulate or copy. -M
