I'd be interested in seeing one about Aja Kong. There, you have the added drama of being mixed race in a racist society, yet still becoming a massive star.

Road Wild ‘99 aired on PPV 25 years ago today, taking place at the Sturgis Motorcycle rally. It was the final Road Wild PPV: WCW World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan successfully defended the title against Kevin Nash. It was a reasonable match, but by that point, I doubt many, myself included, had any emotional investment in WCW beyond the habit of watching it. And Hogan and Nash had pissed away much goodwill with that Fingerpoke of Doom nonsense in January of 1999. At least they wrestled here. There were one or two other matches that were good, such as US Champion Chris Benoit vs. DDP in a No DQ Match, but there was also garbage such as Randy Savage vs. Dennis Rodman. For the most part, this was another horrible WCW PPV.

RIP to Dennis A. Brent, former editor WCW Magazine (and at least one predecessor): www.dignitymemorial.com/en-ca/obituaries/dallas-tx/dennis-brent-11935900I loved various incarnations of WCW Magazine, particularly the 1991-94 ones. Looking back, I smile at the thought of the kayfabe interviews, and newspaper-style articles such as, “Can anyone stop Big Van Vader?” Look at this: One of my favourite covers, 2 variants in fact: It was reported that some stores were trying to sell those as if they were 2 separate issues. I haven’t got a complete article, but a partial one here:

A double page spread of Vader? Yes please!

A double page spread of Vader? Yes please! My dream match would be Brock Lesnar vs. Vader (both in their primes, obviously).

My dream match would be Brock Lesnar vs. Vader (both in their primes, obviously). Something tells me that would end up akin to Vader vs Stan Hansen. Here’s a dream match: The Colossal Kongs vs. Shockmaster in a 60-Minute Iron Man Handicap Match with commentary by Vince Russo and Ed Ferrara. (And to make it worse, the match would end with 0-0, and an overtime period would lead to a double-DQ) Or, more accurately, a nightmare match!

Corny finally posted his thoughts and tribute to his friend Kevin Sullivan. Lot of good stories, some personal touches by co-host Brian Last, some correction to the Dark Side BS (and listen to his appearance, post-Dark Side Benoit Tragedy) and a lot of stuff that is missed because it wasn't on tape.
Love the story about Sullivan and Blackjack Mulligan, in Florida, wrestling at a venue and fighting out of the building, in the darkness; then, the next week, during the opening match, they bust through the front door, wearing the same gear, continuing the fight, like it had been going non-stop, for the entire week!

Brian R. Solomon listed what he considers to be the 20 best tag team titleholders in WWE history (including WWWF and WWF; unlike some wrestling ‘journalists’, I don’t disregard the old acronyms). Here’s his list, in chronological order, published in a recent issue of Inside the Ropes:
Antonio Rocca & Miguel Perez The Graham Brothers The Fabulous Kangaroos The Mongols Mr. Fuji & Toru Tanaka The Valiant Brothers The Wild Samoans Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito The British Bulldogs The Hart Foundation Demolition Money Inc. The Smoking Gunns The New Age Outlaws The Hardy Boyz The Dudley Boyz Edge & Christian Paul London & Brian Kendrick The Usos The New Day
I’m not entirely sure - I’ll have to “debate this with myself” - whether Money Inc. should be on that list.
Solomon’s honourable mentions: Don Curtis & Mark Lewin, Dr. Jerry Graham & Luke Graham, Chief Jay Strongbow & Billy White Wolf, Rick Martel & Tony Garea, The Legion of Doom, The Steiner Brothers, The Quebecers, Owen Hart & The British Bulldog, John Morrison & The Miz, and The Street Profits.
Feels wrong for the LOD and Steiners to be merely “honourable mentions”. But as he’s specifying WWF runs, well I guess we can agree they had more success outside the WWF.
I’m not sure the Quebecers, world tag team title runs aside, should be on the list, although I guess “honourable mentions” are fine. For me, and this is where I question Money Inc. being included, longevity should be a factor, although some teams in wrestling history can fit a lot into a short time.
I do feel the Rockers should have at least made the “honourable mentions” list.

Yeah, the Rockers definitely should be considered among the best teams in company history. Tons of great matches against a wide variety of opponents
Great to see Mr. Fuji get some love. His subpar managerial run often overshadows what was a very solid in ring career
