Well, the Magic 8-Ball is still accurate. I asked it about Sgt. Slaughter, not Bob Remus. Had I used the name Bob Remus, the correct answer would have been returned, I am sure.

My favorites:
as a kid, I loved Junkyard Dog... just loved him to death. I had a Pound Puppy named 'Junkyard'. As a adult, I can see he didn't really work much in WWF, but man, could he make a kid smile. I've puposely never watched any older matches of his as a heel, because it would make me sad.
In the 90s, when I got back in WWE at the end of the attidtude era, my favorites were Road Dogg (who I still contend is one of the best promo guys ever) and Chris Jericho... Jericho's promo on the Rock when he first came to WWE is still my favorite of all time.
After WWE fell apart (IMO), I started watching indies, and I loved Christopher Daniels as 'the Fallen Angel'.. just great work rate, and still a good promo.
When he first came to NXT, I really was into Sammy Zayn (who knew the guy could talk so well?) but after all the injuries and such he's just another guy at this point.
Jericho still has it.. he's been amazing in AEW... his heel promos asking for thanks are half legit.. there's no show without him.

But there was no WWE in the 90s?!! WWE didn't exist until 2002. Seriously, though, I'm with ya on JYD. He did bring much joy. I was always rooting for him, no matter the opponent. I was pleased when he showed up in WCW (wasn't it around 1991/92?). Didn't he and someone challenge for the United States Tag Team Championship at one point or did I imagine that?

Nooooo! You brought back a bad memory. Back when that damn egg hatched, I was expecting a heel from the past, e.g. King Kong Bundy or Zeus. Instead we got a bird.

Well, to take the taste of that out of your mouth, here was a new era in Thanksgiving traditions. In wrestling, it was common to have big shows on holidays, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. Jim Crockett Promotions did it regularly. So, in 1983, they were getting ready for their Thanksgiving show. However, this year, it would be a big spectacular. Harley Race had defeated Flair for the title and this was a rematch. Race had put up a bounty and Dick Slater and Bob orton had tried to collect on it, injuring Flair. Flair had his sights set on beating Harley and regaining the title. They called Flair's quest, "A Flare for the Gold." They decided to do the event up big, with wrestlers from outside the territory to help sell it on closed circuit tv, in their home areas. To that end, people like WWC promoter and champion Carlos Colon appeared on the show. However, it was the dual main events that brought out the crowd: Ricky Steamboat & Jay Youngblood trying to regain the World Tag Team titles from Jack and Gerry Brisco and Ric Flair vs Harley Race, for the NWA World Heavyweight title. Also, the show featured Roddy Piper and Greg Valentine in a dog collar match, to end their brutal feud.
Here are the highlights of the main event.......

Any particular reason the WWWF dropped a "W" in 1979?

Any particular reason the WWWF dropped a "W" in 1979? In 1979, the Governing Body of WWWF felt that World Wide Wrestling Federation was too long and redundant and for marketing use only ... they dropped "Wide" and renamed it to World Wrestling Federation.

Thanks. Wasn't "worldwide" always just one word anyway? I don't have a dictionary to hand.
Makes sense, though. WWF rolls off the tongue far more naturally.

In my world, worldwide can be separated ... Americans see it two ways; worldwide and world wide. Back then prior to 1979 ... WWWF was recognized as World Wide Wrestling Federation. To me its can be "both" depending on the originator of that organization alone. That's why they dropped "Wide" and shorten the name to World Wrestling Federation and they should had it copyrighted then to avoid the fuss with World Wildlife Fund later on.

I do miss the name "Titan Sports" as it did give the WWF a legitimacy that made it sound like a real sports organisation. Deep down, we know wrestling is predetermined and scripted, but when I used to read about Titan Sports press conferences and the like, it made the WWF feel very "real" to me.

A 1996 issue of the Wrestling Observer (I read it at lunchtime) has Meltzer claim Mabel was discussed as the possible third man at Bash at the Beach 1996. What?!!
Love him or hate him, Hogan, who at that point had been a face for 15 years, turning heel was a shocker. When I saw the PPV, I naturally presumed he was coming down to help the good guys, especially when Hall and Nash made a sharp exit out of the ring. Him turning heel was like seeing Superman or Santa Claus turn bad!
The only other people who could have shocked the world at that time would have been Bret Hart and Roddy Piper (my opinion, of course). Hart showing up in WCW and being the third man would have shocked me. Roddy Piper doing the same would have shocked me. When I watched the match, I suspected it was Luger. He had turned heel many times and I found it convenient for him to be carted out on a stretcher so early on. I expected him to return and team with Hall and Nash. But Hogan was shocking. As stated, Hart and Piper would have been shocking.
Mabel appearing, bless him, would have been anti-climatic. He had no history with WCW (as far as I know) and had been a heel in the WWF at the time.
