I'm about to re-read the pre-crisis Black Orchid, and was thinking about how this character has the highest "Drake thinks she's cool"-to-"number of stories she's featured in" ratio, and also how lame the Vertigo-ization of her was. I was thinking if I had any talent, I would at least write my own origin issue for her and put it in my collection with the official comics. And that got me wondering how many fans not named Geoff Johns actually do that. So how far have y'all gone to add your own stories to your collections, or otherwise put your personal stamp on continuity? For myself, the most creative thing I've done (and am capable of doing, really) is working out my own hyper-time enabled DC continuity.

So how far have y'all gone to add your own stories to your collections, or otherwise put your personal stamp on continuity? For myself, the most creative thing I've done (and am capable of doing, really) is working out my own hyper-time enabled DC continuity. Nothing quite like that, though I have thought of plots and character ideas and written notes; but never a full on story. I had ideas for a generational look at heroes, mirroring the eras of comics and thought of a superman, born of Atomic Bomb tests, with an ultra-conservative American hero type, as part of it; and, lo and behold, James Robinson turned out The Golden Age and there was that plot, with some twists that never entered my head. I do have a vision of a Sgt Rock and Sgt Fury crossover, during the Battle of the Bulge. It just seems to me it would have to be at that point. Rock and Easy are part of the defenders of Bastogne and Fury and the Howlers finagle their way up there to help stop the Germans. i even had the idea of them defying orders, gowing over in a plane, flown by a maniac pilot (Blackhawk) to do a parachute jump into the the town, with some supplies. I see them jointly running aggressive patrols to harass the Germans and fool them into thinking there is a counter-attack, holding them back from advancing further, until Patton's relief forces arrive (with the Haunted Tank in the vanguard).

Yeah, I am lucky in that Crimebuster is in the public domain, so I can do this. If I wasn't able to actually publish the comic, I don't think I would have done it — the drawing takes so long! But I might have done some prose fanfic for my own entertainment anyway.

In some of my indexing and Who's Who work, i make suppositions and connections and these occasionally (well, twice i can think of) get picked up as "canon" by those that are in the industry and end up in the comics themselves.
