You'd think a baseball fanatic like Julius Schwartz would insist Infantino get the details on those covers right. Then again: SCHWARTZ: Carmine, the field layout is all wrong, and nobody slides into a base like that! INFANTINO: It's a f'in' gorilla playin' f'in' baseball and yer worried about f'in' realism??IRWIN DONENFELD: Okay the damn cover, Julie, and worry about that crap on your own time. We got sausages, I mean comic books to grind out! Cei-U! I summon the idle speculation! I didn't realize Julie loved him some baseball. Your story makes profoundest sense. I summon the dollar sign.

Baseball was one of Julie's true loves along with Dixieland jazz, science fiction, and sexually harassing the office staff.
Cei-U! I summon the rennaissance man!

Grammar and syntax apparently weren't, though. I couldn't get through any two pages of "Man of Two Worlds" or whatever his book was called w/o being hamstrung by long stretches of unedited crapola. Most disappointing from old B.O.

Another baseball cover. Batter's back foot is outside the batter's box. He may be the lead-off hitter; the back line is usually rubbed out soon after. The ump could call him out. Also, that's a TINY bat, and why is the home plate area grey? Is it clay? pavement?

More proof that Carmine did not really know (or care about) his baseball.

The weird thing is the bat the on deck hitter has looks pretty normal.. so I guess it was just carelessness.
The other thing I noticed on the gorilla one.. the baseman (not sure exactly what base that might be) is wearing a turn of the century glove.
