There is a new documentary coming out about Tim Burton's cancelled 1998 Superman film titled The Death of "Superman Lives", and it's sounding like this could have been the wackiest superhero movie of our time.
It all begins with this strange looking photo of Nicolas Cage in this Superman costume:
I'm sure most of you have seen this photo before. It's hard to believe that we might have seen a Superman like this flying around, but it nearly happened. Add a whacked-out script by Kevin Smith, which featured Supes battling Giant Spiders, a wicked-looking Brainiac, and the death of Superman (by Doomsday) and subsequent rebirth into a Kryptonian robot called the Eradicator...not to mention the Rainbow Robots or the Polar Bears guarding the Fortress of Solitude. Sounds like this was going to be one heck of a mindtrip of a movie.
The documentary is going to shed some light on more of the background and story, including props such as the "Eradicator version" of Superman's suit as seen below:
