Sort looks like this cover took artitic cues (most of all in the title) from a movie released the same year, The Land that Time Forgot-- Or is it the other way around? First Kingdom was published in August 1974.

First Kingdom was published in August 1974. The film was shot in February of '74, and the A-sheets were in circulation that fall. I'm not sure when the comic's cover was conceived, but its timing near the advertising for a forthcoming movie seems like its not so much of a coincidence.

Or is it the other way around? First Kingdom was published in August 1974. The film was shot in February of '74, and the A-sheets were in circulation that fall. I'm not sure when the comic's cover was conceived, but its timing near the advertising for a forthcoming movie seems like its not so much of a coincidence. Katz started work on The First Kingdom while he was still at Skywald (between '70 and '73) and only self-published it in '74 after he left because they wouldn't let him publish it with them without editorial interference. Kat was an incredibly slow and detailed artist, and it took him the better part of a year to produce a single issue, so work on The First Kingdom predates any of the movie publicity, posters, etc. -M
