Okay, pals 'n' gals, it’s the announcement you've all been waiting for. It's time once again for that most welcome herald of the holiday season: the launch of the sixth/fifteenth observance of the Twelve Days of Classic Comics Christmas!
No doubt there are a few of you out there who, being new to the Classic Comics Forum, may be wondering, “Hey, Cei-U!—if that's your real name—just what in
the name of Jacob Marley's ghost is the Twelve Days of etc.?”
This year's theme is one I'm sure will delight each and every one of you. We all at some point in our comics-devouring lives have experienced that visceral thrill when a pair of our favorite characters either team up to trounce the baddies or go toe-to-toe to determine who is top dog. You guessed it! 2019's Twelve Days is all about

For our purposes here, a crossover is any comic book story in which two comic book features not normally associated with each other share an adventure. Characters who team up regularly (e.g., Batman and Robin) or for extended periods (e.g., Green Lantern and Green Arrow, Power Man and Iron Fist) are not eligible in and of themselves, but may be counted collectively as half of your team-up. Team titles like The Avengers or the Justice League are ineligible (and, just to make this extra hard on myself, this includes team-ups of teams a la the old JLA/JSA stories). Crossovers featured in titles like The Brave and the Bold or Marvel Two-in-One are permitted, as are those featuring characters from different publishers (e.g., Superman and Spider-Man). You are allowed to cite reprints (including Essentials, Showcases, Archives, Masterworks, Omnibuses, trade collections, etc). if that's how you first encountered your selection. Note, too, that your choices are not restricted to super-heroes: any meet-up of feature characters that meet the preceding criteria can be used. Cross-franchise stories (e.g., Aliens vs. Predator or Star Trek / Green Lantern) also qualify, as do faux crossovers using thinly disguised versions of other characters (e.g. Captain Strong, DC's Popeye doppelganger). Any format, any era, any nation of origin is acceptable with a single restriction: because it's the Classic Comics Forum, your selections must have first appeared in print prior to January 1, 2010.*
Keep in mind that these are your personal favorites, not what you or anyone else considers “the best,” and remember: you must explain your choice. You are not required to include pictures of your selections but if you do, please post no more than two images per entry.
The survey will work just as it has in previous years. Each participating poster will draw up a list of their favorite crossovers, ranked 12 (lowest) through 1 (highest). On December 13, I will post my #12 choice, on the 14th, #11, and so on until our #1 choices on Christmas Eve. You must post each selection on the appropriate day's thread, though not necessarily on that day. Late entries (up through, say, the 31st) are welcome. At the end of the survey, the results and a brief statistical overview will be posted with links to the original 12 threads.
Rules are subject to tweaking based on participant input for the next week (until midnight on December 6), after which they’re locked in. Any questions, suggestions or (horrors!) criticisms should be posted in this thread.
So this is your official heads up: you have two weeks to create your lists before the fun starts (yes, I realize this is less time than I usually give, but dopey me forgot that Thanksgiving fell on the fourth Thursday of November this year). Who's in?
